Flat One Drama's superb acting is number one in every aspect of competition and entertainment As the heat of the summer days went by, the theatre arts students, under the direction ofMildred A. Peveto and technical director Pa- tricia Mills, were hard at work preparing for the 8th Annual Pre- School Workshop. The week long activity featured Dallas area professionals as they taught seminars focused on competitive forensics. The workshop paid off as the 1987-88 competitive squad, led by president Robin Henry, took a sweepstakes award home from every tournament at- tended. Qualifying forthe Texas Forensic Association's State Meet in Austin were almost 20 individuals in 26 events. Susan Calvert and Mike Gensler ac- complished a feat never before achieved by any department: they were the first quadruple state qualifiers. NewmanSmith'sown tournament, Spontaneity '87, once again maintained their tradi- tion ofbeing one ofthe best tour- naments in Texas. Tournatnent Director Mike Gensler and staff played host to over fifty schools from across the southwest. As a result of ten long years of main- taining a high calibur of excel- lence, the National Forensic League Chapter captured the Outstanding Chapter Award. This coveted honor is given to only 25 schools from across the nation. The theatre opened its doors once again for the fanatic fall show, The Cantcrville Ghost. While working dili- gently to build Neverland, Foy Interprises arrived in Carrollton to teach the technicians and ac- tors the 'tart of flying. Jenni Page, Juliana Smith, Kristen Ar- ens, Todd l-larlow, Zooey Whar- ton, and Brian Young twisted and turned their way to opening night as the ensemble of over fifty members created a fantasy that nobody could forget. The spring activities began with a bang as the U.I.L. One Act Play, A Midsum- mer Nighfs Dream, successfully presented Shakespeare's com- edy. lndividual honors went to: Matt Crawley, Susan Calvert, Jenni Page, Jenny Matejka, Juli- ana Smith, Jeff Hoffman, Scott Barnes, and Todd Harlow. Assis- tant Director Gwyn Richardson and the stage crew Joel English, Kevin Dedmon, and Andre Archimbaud joined forces with the cast to create an unforgetable show. The spring show, Up the Down Staircase , was presented by the theatre arts lirst and second year students during the month of May. The year ended with a fond farewell to the 1987-88 seniors and a warm welcome to the Class of19S9. But now, the sawdust is gone, the costumes are hung, and the trophies are put away. Only the lingering memories and memorable lines are left as the lights fade on another year.
