It is situated on Plymouth Sound, between the estuaries of the rivers Plym and Tamar. To- gether with D evonpo rt and Stonehouse, the population is about 300.000, There were many places to visit in Plymouth. A beauti- ful view of the city and the Sound could be had from atop the new Civic Center. The old quarter of town, from where the pilgrims sailed. is kept pretty much as it was in those days, and provided an interesting sightseeing walk. Too, there is a replica of the MAYFLOWER located there that is open for visiting. Perhaps the most relaxing time in Plymouth could be had on the Hoe, a huge park in the center of the city that stretches down to the Sound. There were monuments to be seen, bowling greens and a theater. Many of the Perry's sailors spent an afternoon sitting on the grass of the Hoe, enjoying the sunshine, and watching the girls.
