Only a seaman realizes to what great extent a ship reflects the person- ality and ability of her crew. To a landsman this is not understandable and sometimes it is even difficult for us to comprehend, but it is so. lt is so, because a ship derives her reputation from the skill with which she is handled, and the dispatch and proficiency in which she carries out her assigned operations. The NEWMAN K. PERRY never missed an operation and was the smartest destroyer during her Mediterranean deployment, 28 January l960 to 31 August 1960.
