A "H W, Ciaches Ceryizzi and O'Donr:cll 156 joollaff The Crimson Clippers ot Newburyport High had a tairly poor season last year, winning only three and dropping sixg however, the seasonal record does not really tell the whole story. The Clippers actually won a moral victory while losing to Salem in the opening game of the season, and lost a heartbreaker to Methuen High by one point after holding the lead throughout most ot the contest. The loss ot the services ot halt-backs Torn Bandar and Art Ricker early in the season did not help the Clipper cause. After dropping a 6-O decision to Salem, the Clippers turned on the heat and routed St Marys High 32 7 Newburyport registered its second win of the season against Cathedral ot Boston 34 7 after lossng a 26 to O game to a flashy Gloucester team Three more losses r l it C r Jam s Ronan William Lyon Sam Blunt Joe Kelleher Captain Henry Brown D nald Stant Fr c Varcewicz Joe Marshall Ronalt F w Second row John Meade Charles Rurdlctt Ut rn ri r u ac urnie ames 1 urs en ccvu cwlc A Ybur lcv irj ch c ew c Herbcrt :imrn ns Fre awres 1 ls A fhuf All fl 'Y 0 JUN F0l9N AWGN hn sa Q ward ONQQC Ruggell P C Jchn Sowui- n l VV le Jere Dug or I" , x J Q Q A ' A x I ll V ' X x' n ,' X 1, I il ,Xxx V 1' I - -A J - t r w Chores s x if , ' s , , f , ,n gr' is E , . The unsung heroes of a football game, the line, played a great brand of ball during the past season. The Clipper forward wall of Neil Wile, Jim Ronan, Doug MacBurnie, and Johnny Savukinas at the guards, Ben Cole, Bill Lyons, and Ronnie Fowle at the tackles, and Joe Marshall at center could appropriately be called the iran men, each one playing in al- most every game last year, and in most cases against opposing linemen considerably bigger than they were . Every student at NHS had good reason to be proud of last year's team, even though they didn't have a winning record. It was a team that fought hard in every game, a team that played each game to the best of its ability, and a team that played many games out of its class. -Q ..
