They were Bertha Marr, Irene Byler, Myra Bican, Ginny Frost, Jim Vins, Sally Blair, Jo Ann Bond, Bill Felberg, Carol Stetina, Louis Hogye, Ted Schienke, Virginia Baranyai, Jeni Soplata, Jane Night- ingale and Pat Jackson. This was the beginning of the long path toward graduation. Along the twelve years we've added twenty to our class. This brings the Senior Class of 1957 to thirty-five. Through the years we've a lot of memories--good and bad. In the second grade Jack Swann, Mary Ann Phan, Doranell Mitchell, and Mary Lou Portman joined our group. This year we all remember making Indian costumes and had a pow-wow. Starting in third grade that year was Jackie Tracy, Howard Kuhen, Phyllis Briggs, Dee Williams, Kenny Lewis and Lyman Davis. We started to write this year instead of print. Jerry Bejbl and Fred Portman joined us in the fourth grade. Mrs. Prots was our teacher that year. In the fifth grade we studied about the United States and each of us reported on a state which proved very interesting. Our teacher was Miss Susan Seith. The sixth grade brought us to the half-way point. Six more years to go! Ellie Campbell and Roy Kure joined us. We all remember learning a number of poems that year. The Junior High years were exciting, with Jr. High sports and running around like a real, live high-school student. But upper- classmen were another thing! In the seventh grade Mike Haxler joined our happy little group. Mr. Florian was our eighth grade adtlsor and everyone liked him 8. 10to In the ninth grade Jo Ann Bond joined us again after two years in East Cleveland. Jackie Blase and Eleanor Campbell left us and went to Regina. Doug Frank joined us that year. Mr. Burke was our advisor. Chuck Evans and Liz Scafe started with us in the tenth grade. Jackie Blase and Eleanor Campbell joined us again. In May we held a spring dance to begin to make money for our Prom. Mrs. Sumner was our advisor. In the fall of our Junior year we sold magazines, cards and wrapping paper for our treasury. We held the annual football dance 1156 C 6 in November. Richard Guella came to us that year. Our Jr-Sr Prom was held at Lutz's and our presentation of 'Aunt Tillie Goes to Town', were the big events of our Jr. year. Now our Senior year is drawing to a close. Ye have sold candy and ice cream, had a Fish Fry and presented the Senior play,'The Ghost House' to make money. Our Senior Class trip to Washington and New York was the biggest event of the year. Our twelve years have been happy ones that will be hard to forget in our future years. enior Class Will Ve, the Class of 19579 of Newbury Township, Geauga County, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament, and will and bequeath the following: FIRST: SECOND: THIRD: FOURTH: FIFTH: SIXTH: SEVENTH: EIGHTHa NINTHz TENTH: ELEVENTHS TWELNTH3 THIRTEENTH2 FOURTEENTHS FIFTEENTHS SIXTEENTH8 Virginia Baranya1's quiet manner to Dolly Zakg Myra Bican's legible handwriting to A1 Fellensteing Jerry Bejb1's ability to get in trouble in study halls to David Ogden, Sally Blair's ability to handle money to future Senior Class treasurersg Jackie B1ase's unrevealing manner to Volta Strazdsg Chuck Evan's quiet, shy ways to Gary Laneskyg Jo Ann Bond's sweet personality to Carol Seddon, Phyllis Briggs' smooth temper to Karen Brinkerhoffg Lyman Davis' noisy car to Al Fellensteing Irene Byler's share in the name Wright to Linda McClure, Eleanor Campbe1l's affinity for college men to the Champion twinsg B111 Fe1berg's tall, slim build to Jim Oliver: Virginia Frost's sparkler to Nancy Portman, Richard Gue1la's ability to talk his way out of things to anyone who needs itg Pat Jackson's cooperative ways to the Junior Classg Louis Hogye's ability to stay out of school to Judy Elwing 061136 Q 1 SEVENTEENTHS EIGHTEEUTH8 NINETEENTH3 TWE NTITC' FIT 2 TWENTY- FIRST: TVENTYHSEC0NDs TUENTY-THIRD! Class Prophecy Today, exactly ten years from the day the Class of '57 graduated from Newbury, we shall make a survey to see just what has happened to each member of the class. We shall start with the class presi- dent. We have to go west to Montana to visit Doranell Mitchell. Do you remember when we were Juniors and Dory chipped her tooth on a tall boy's belt buckle? Who would have guessed she would marry him and have two lovely children Kincidentally they're both spoiled! Let's drop next door and see Virginia Baranyai, now 'Cattle Queen of the Westh, who owns the biggest ranch in the world! Ginny was recently asked to co-star in William Walden's latest picture, 'Scrawled on the Squall' fany resemblance to 'Written on the Wind' is purelyh accidental! but Ginny refused because she was needed gn the ranch. Poor William was heartbroken and has now given up acting altogether. Speaking of pictures, we must mention Carol Stetina who is a double for Marjorie Hain. Her latest picture is una and Pa Kettle at the Barber Shop.' While out this way we can hop over to Hollywood and visit Jane Nightingale. Jane is a model--one of the most famous. She models rings and bracelets with her expressive hands. Jane is married now but she uses her maiden name to avoid confusion. And away we go to Nevada where Dick Guella owns a line of gambling casinos in Reno. 'We hear you're doing quite well, Dick, how about it?' 'Yes, yes, we pull in a million or so a night.' Say now, who is that down there? Why it's Jerry Bejbl digging ditches with a spoon! 'You'll never get anyplace that way, Jerryn But we can't stop now, we have to hurry. Myra Bican has now been married to George for a year. The poor girl had to hitchhike to Florida and since she never got a ride, it took her nine years to get there! what do you think happened to Sally Blair? She is now treasurer of the United States. The age limit was lowered to 21 just so she could serve. As you remember she received a lot of her training at Newbury where she was class treasurer during her high school y08.l'S e - hgliw w w .ag ZA. hi' N as wg J A f 11 v nl -I w xakfpvf 1 , 6 M115 Q 1 Back in Newbury Phyllis B iggs has a fabulous shop for evening clothes. The secret to her success is that she makes her dresses completely upside-down. Then when they are turned right-side-up-- presto a Briggs gown. New there is Roy Kure working on roofs. Newbury is famous be- cause of its outstanding roofs made from a new product which he has discovered and patented. There is a little poem about him: 'Up on the roof-top with a pot of tar, is old Roy Kure--man, he'1l go fern. Now we are passing the largest dairy farm in the world owned by Jim Vins and Lyman Davis. Lyman said he'd never be a farmer but I guess the call of the barn was irresistable. That figure over there in the field is Ted Schienke painting. Ted decided to become an artist after all the work he did on the Clarion. He is married now and has eight children. Going a little farther we see Ginny Frost on her knees begging her husband, John, to buy her a washboard because the rocks in the stream near their house are all worn out. Irene Byler has just driven up and is now asking Ginny to watch her four children while she goes to see Verne. Irene, you see, drove Verne crazy and he had to be placed in an institution. Bhrilou Portman has been WSwimming Champion of the World' since 1960. She would have made it in 1959 but when she got to the contest she discovered she had forgotten her suit so she was dis- qualified. Last week Marilou accomplished an unbelievable feat-- she swam the Atlantic Ocean in three weeks. Her cousin Fred is an architect. He get his ideas from some of the subjects he took while in school. Fred's slogan is 'No two houses aliken and so far he has really lived up to it. After eight years, Jack Swann has gotten a job driving the paddy wagon for the Geauga County Sheriff. After riding in it so Gften he thought it would be nice to drive it. His assistant is Chuck Evans who also owns the Greasy Spoon Restaurant situated along the new Freeway that runs through Newbury. Bertha Marx, after her term as Editor of the Clarion decided to be a reporter. Through the years she has worked her way up to copy girl and hopes to be a cub reporter by 1977. After finishing four years at Kent State, Jackie Blase is now the Dean of Men at Harvard. This is one girl that will never change o Liz Scafe is a famous chi1dren's photographer. Deloras Williams is employed as her nbirdien because of her talent for making faces. To improve her work, Liz sits in the corner and pretends she is a camera during her spare time. Pat Jackson is Tennis Champion of the World. While at college Pat became interested in tennis and has been playing ever since. Pat married her high school sweetheart and they have three children w ,1 U . . m ng-1 " w-': 4, 11 L.- 1 r x J'-3 061756 I 1 Louis Hogye is a full-fledged veterinarian and after hours he practices operating on Howard Kuhen. Howard has bought his own private race track on which only Newbury boys are allowed to drag. Jo Ann Bond decided, after two years at Kent, that she didn't want to be a teacher. So, after eight years of hard work, Jo has been promoted to head dishwasher at the Manor House. This is alright with her husband Wayne, except that their house is getting crowded from dirty dishes. Jeni Soplata is still engaged to Neal. She refuses to get married until they have S5,ooc in the bank. 're help make this money, Jeni is working as a weight lifter in Bill Fe1berg's carnival Bill liked carnivals to much he decided to buy one so he could ride on the merry-go-round for nothing. Let's stop in Shaker Heights to see Doug Frank and Ken Lewis. They are bachelors and live in a big house. They are coaches at Newbury and have the best team since 1950. Ve stopped in to say 'Hin and the door was answered by their butler Michael Uaxler. Guess what was on the radio! Eleanor Campbell, Jackie Tracy, and Mary Ann Phan singing 'When Irish Eyes Are Cryingn. They are known as Passion, Pride, and Prejudice.
