'ZS' 'Q CLASS PROPHECY It is now twenty long years since we walked away from Newburg High School as graduates of '45'. The class reunion was proceeding very nicely as I,Irene Blue entered, a little late from the offices of the St. Louis Herald, where I am now employed as human interests writer. One of the first persons I met was Lonzo LeFever, now reverend, who seemed to be doing very nicely with his con- gregation et Edgar Springs. P he seated ourselves at the nearest table and he pointed out various class-mates to me. There was Karl Gable and Lester Grayson who now are bachelors on their near by farm, talking to Faul Smith now a teacher of agriculture at Columbia Seated,at a near by table was Wilbur Stites, the Newburg Basketball Coach, discussing science with the world's greatest scientist, James Minkler. He told me about Ella Jean Bradford now a writer whose latest book is NHow to Stop Blushing and Overcome Bashfulness' Austin Kontgomery is now a famous play-wright whose latest success, stars those dramatic actressess, Fern Hudgens and Jessis Sendifer. . Fame one put a nickel in the Juke box and me heard Jim Arthur croon his latest ballad. - Something bumped the table and I looked up and axeeted Homer Guffey, the famous dancing instructor, showing the latest dence to Barbara Willis who was his assistant on his dancing tours. ' Aftwr leaving reverend LeFever, I noticed a crowd at one end of fne hall. Going over to see what was happening I sew June Deshurley doing her latest version of the bubble d.nce. , D I met another old school-mate, John Tright, who told me of his success on the radio as -n aspirin salesman, advertising for Judy Cain's net progiam Wwright or Trong.n ,9- .4.'x" 5. She told me of her ever growing business in which she sold books to schools. She told me she had recently sold some of her history books to Norma Courson who was now a teacher in Indiana. We had 5o class. Some of us were a little fright all the things that might occur during higher learning, and all of us a little proud of the fact that we were now starting to high school. The officers of our Freshman class were: President--Warren Roach Vice--President--Wendell Jordan Secretary--Suezanne Roach Treasurer--Martha Tyler Our Sponsor was Mrs. Nancy Jane Staggs. t When we came back the following year of h3, Several of our had classmates of the previous year did not return, but we a few new students to enroll. e This year we were Sophomores and we were quite pleased at the thought of no longer being the greenest class in high schoo This year our Class Sponsor was Mr. Durham, and our class officers were: President--Wendell Jordan Mice-President--Eugene Wait Secretary--Rosalie Cook Treasurer--Dolly Roberts Now we are Juniors. Upper Classmenl We have found that high school is not the trying ordeal that we had feared as freshmen, but a place to make friends and have fun, as well as to learn. A We have two sponsors this year. Mrs. Noland and Mrs. Durham. Our class officers are: President--Martha Tyler Vice-President--Nadine Boudinot Secretary--Bill Reed Treasurer--Peggy Spradling This year we are not only one of the largest classes in school, but the most mischievous. 1 1 .- 5 L 1 C v u . We take the opportunity now to thank all of those who have aided us with this volume. The Editors wish to thank especially the members of the 1945 staff who have so untiringly given their time and effort to make this book possible. We next wish to thank the sponsors who, in spite of their many activities, have given generously of their time. The student body and the faculty are to be commended upon the fine spirit of cooperation they have shown throughout the year.
