I969. requested approval to increase the Education Fund tax rate from Sl.47 to 51.86 fpassedl and the Building Rate from 25 to 38 cents ldefeatedl. Believing that the defeat may have come from a misunder- standing about the purpose of the Building Fund C80 per cent for maintenance wages. 20 per cent for repair and renovationl. a second election was held on April ll that proposed a rate raise to 35 cents fdefeatedj. Following the second defeat. the Board announced that necessary maintenance money would have to be drawn from the Ed- ucation Fund. At the request of the administration. the Board re- tained Arthur Young Sa Company. management consult- ants. to study elliciency and effectiveness of administra- tion. faculty. and stafl. Such assistance was required. Dr. Cornog said. to supplement the staff in implementing recommendations for administrative reorganization. These recommendations were made by the visiting North Cen- tral Association evaluation committee. New Trier regretted the retirements of faculty members Miss Louise Hamilton. Mr. .lohn W. Rau. and Mr. Bailey W. Shearer. all after 40 yearsg Mrs. Henriette tRobert .l.l Bishop. after 36 years: Mr. Charles F. Lauer. 30 years: Mr. Loris A. Hoyt. 27 years: Mr. Allen A. Hurley. 22 years: and Mr. Robert E. Wilson. 20 yearsg and of Mrs. Kathryn tCharlesl Carroll after I8 years as secretary to the assistant superintendent and as student activities bookkeeper. The school was saddened at the death in October of Mr. Burnell H.
