' l Spheres of interest Discussion at a Future Teachers of America meeting helps mem- bers to understand the complex role of the modern teacher. fMeit'rl From the shufhe of chalk against the blackboard to soft strains of music drifting through the air. From the hurry and excitement of Wall Street to wistful. languid dreams of far away places. From gazing at stars and multitudi- nous microscopic life to gazing into the future at possible careers. This is a part of the scope and diversity of clubs. This year four new clubs. Hosteling, Yoga, 5O's, and Republicrats, widened the scope. Perhaps the individual club member wanted to develop a special interest. Maybe he wanted to share his know- ledge with his classmates and, in so doing, learn some- thing himself. No matter which of these purposes he had in mind, he sought companionship and a sense of belong- ing in an activity he enjoyed. Belonging meant that the day of the club meeting seemed just a little bit shorter and more bearable because there was something to look for- ward to. The meeting was an oasis at the end of a hard day. It meant that for a small investment of time, for a few hours that otherwise might be unprofitable, there would be enjoyable activity and happy camaraderie. The hand of a Chess Club member tenses before attacking. tNlzfiz'1'l
