Now. the whole idea is to stay alioatf' tMeivrj Swimming provides many hours of enjoyment for those who are willing to spend time learning the various tech- niques. Every Saturday morning, the members of the New Trier Guard gave swimming instruction to 3,000 chil- dren from the township. In these lessons. emphasis was placed on individual training rather than on group ses- sions. Each child was coached according to his own spe- cific weaknesses. Receiving no athletic letter or any other official recognition, the members of the Gymnastics team and other volunteers provided instruction in the basic gym- nastic routines in physical education classes. Academic therap One of the Strongest bonds between students of all ages is that well-known panic that sets in when the time-hon- ored study methods of procrastinating. cramming. and sleeping in class fail. Hundreds of students found a mirac- ulous .alternative in the Student Tutoring ollice. They found that with time and conscientious study under the supervision of a volunteer tutor. they could conquer even the most formidable algebra problems and French verbs. Help was offered in all areas under the guidance of stu- dent eo-heads Gail Lippman and Craig Johnson and fae- ulty adviser Miss Katherine Foss. This door is always left open for those who need a little help. l Ogtleri l 1 nminL spirit ot u oi imc oinson s iriounds het tutee Jim Rubens. with an aura ol' learning. lf2L'tll'lll
