'Llx '1 Yi 5, Xfrll flf' The 1959-59 Dragons showed an unquenchable fighting spirit with their record of 19 wins and 3 losses for the hardwood season, Entering the county tourney, thc previously undefeated Dragons suffered their first defeat at the hands of a hard-fighting Hancock Central team, The game was a thriller, and when the final buzzer sounded, the score- board showed Hancock Central on top 60 to 57, Never to be daunted, the fiery Dragons continued their record-breaking season suffering only one scheduled- game loss to a sharp-shooting New Salem crew, Traveling to the newly-formed Southport sectional, the Dragons got a chance to show off their prowess to the big-city boys. Beating Decatur Central in the first round 59 to 55, the Dragons moved on to play Fortville in their second game. But on that fateful day, our boys faced TWO foes--the Fortville Demons and that old demon, the flu, Displaying remarkable fighting spirit, the Dragons led by a narrow margin until a fourth-quarter rally by Fortville gave them a slim victory of 57-53, The Dragons, as a team, ended a memorable season shattering four school records. An outstanding 71, 3 point-per-game average topped the previous school record, Also, the 1958-'59 Dragons were the first to have a field goal shooting percentage of over .400 f,401j, Officially, the 19 wins - 3 losses season mark is a school re- cord also. Their eleven-game winning streak set still another school record. All in all, the 1958-'59 Dragons were quite a team!! SECTIONAL SNAPS .8'l.
