OUR NEW SCHOOL The new New Kensington High School is one of our greatest sources of pride in this growing community. Construction began on July 10, 1955, when Pat Sharkey and Eugene Collodi helped to break ground for the building. Later Virginia Morgan and Bruce Shaw assisted in laying the cornerstone. The school is located in a beautiful valley which is one of the scenic spots of the area. It is fully equipped with the most modern facilities available. Some of the highlights of this building are the spacious cafeteria, the modern gym, and the comfortable auditorium. Although it has had no time to build up a tradition, this new building is enveloped with a warm, friendly atmosphere. The library proves to be a center of learning at Ken Hi. The Band has been chosen to represent the State of Pennsylvania on its dedication page in the national high school band book, First Chair of America. Camp is pictured in this scene. Their reason is evident because they cheered on to victory a mag- nificent championship football team during the 1957-58 season. CHEERLEADERS C. Bishop, P. Misczak, N. Sams, S. Meyers, B. Waugh, M. Mr. Brown, Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Primozic, Mr. Slosky VARSITY FOOTBALL-'I957 It goes without saying that the 1957 foot- ball season was one that will long be re- membered in the Ken Hi annals of sports. It was our first undefeated, untied season in nearly a decade, and the schedule was an unusually rough one. The season was one of the most heart-breaking for the team and the student body, too, as a siege of illness pre- vented the squad from completing their full number of scheduled games, thereby closing the beckoning doors to the Class AA championship. By compiling a 15-9 overall record and a 9-3 mark in league competition they merited a strong second place. We lose along with regular George Easley, three year vet- erans Jack Rosak and Nojo Jones, who were the nucleus of the team. It's about my ex- perience in the retailing field. Believe me, Variety Store business is fast-moving and interesting. Each counter is a store in itself. Here at Murphy's one learns retailing from the bottom up! I started out as an extra salesgirl, working every day after school. When I was graduated, I was fortunate to be placed in charge of a counter. I never knew how really interesting this work could be . . . it's just like having a shop of my own. I'm growing here, taking more responsibility as I go. There's still more room for advancement . . . I can work myself into a position of merchandise buyer, section supervisor or bookkeeper in the office. Soon I hope to be selected to train for the job of Personnel Directress in a large new Murphy Store. All of us at Murphy's have an equal chance to better ourselves. From what I can see Murphy's is tops in training . . . and there isnit a store in town to beat Murphyls on Employee benefits!
