RADM J. Paul Reason Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group One Rear Admiral Paul Reason was born and raised in Washington, D. C. He graduated from the United States Na- val Academy with the class of 1965. Prior to being trained in nuclear propulsion engineering, he served as Operations Officer of USS J. D. BLACK- WOOD CDE 2191. Upon completion of training, he was as- signed duties on board USS TRUXTUN CDLGN 351 and participated in her first deployment to Southeast Asia in 1968. Joining USS ENTERPRISE CCVN 651 as Electrical Officer in 1971, he deployed twice to the Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean areas. After service as Combat Systems Offi- cer, again on USS TRUXTUN CCGN 351, RADM Reason commenced a tour as nuclear assignment officer at the Bu- reau of Naval Personnel. In late 1976, he was assigned as Naval Aide to the Presi- dent of the United States. He served as Aide to President Carter until mid-1979. Subsequent duties included Execu- tive Officer, USS MISSISSIPPI QCGN 491, Commanding Officer, USS COONTZ CDDG 401, and Commanding Offi- cer, USS BAINBRIDGE CCGN 251. Prior to assuming his present duties as Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group One, in September 1988, RADM Reason served as Commander, Naval Base Seattle, responsi- ble for Naval activities in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. RADM Reason's personal awards include the Legifm of Merit with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal. HC also is authorized to wear the Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Ev Ribbon, RVN Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Ci- tation, RVN Campaign Medal, and the Sea Service Depl0Y' ment Ribbon. RADM Reason and his wife, Dianne, live in San Diego Calif. Their two children, Rebecca and Joseph, attend col- lege. A
