HTC Bowden DCC Vercammen FN Anderson HTFN Bachman FN Beebe HTFN Burkhart R DIVISION LTIG Dunstan CWO2 Burks Though only 35 men, Repair Division gives the impression that they are a much larger division. Damage Controlmen and I-lull Technicians combine efforts to accomplish their primary mission to keep the ship afloat. They form the ship's underway immediate response team which reacts to emergencies such as fire and flooding. The DCs maintain the ship's main space halon and AFFF fire extinguishing systems and the ship's six repair lockers and six unit lockers. The I-IT's are in charge of the shipls CI-IT system, the Carpenter Shop and the Pipe Shop. R-Division also mans a separate workcenter, ER09. Working directly for the ship's Damage Control Assistant, they maintain the ship's DC readiness, keep her afloat and able to fight. During deployment, R-Division personnel ensured CI-IT and firemains were hooked up in every port and set up static displays for the thousands of visitors. They accomplished over 500 production jobs not including the numerous emergency repair jobs for New Jersey and her escorts. The carpenter shop manufactured special plaques for the foreign dignitaries. The Division participated in numerous parades throughout Australia . A LOT OF WORK, A LOT OF RESPONSIBILITY AND A LOT OF PRIDE - R DIVISION. CWO3 Burks clamps a metal project together while HTFN Burkhart is welding a cleat at sea. 39
