Captain Douglas J. Katz, a native of Bluefield, West Virginia, attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating with the class of 1965. . . I-le holds a Master of Science Degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California and is a gra- duate of the Command and Staff Course, Navy War College, Newport, Rhode Island. Captain Katz' sea assignments have includ- ed USS Perry CDD 884D as Gunnery Assistant, First Lieutenant and ASW Officer, USS John Paul Jones lDDG 32D as ASW Officer, and after attendance at Destroyer School, as the ship's Weapons Officer, and Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Group Two as Surface Op- erations Officer, Most recently he served as Commanding Officer, USS Deyo QDD 989D during a tour in which the ship was awarded two Unit Commendations and his squadron's Battle Efficiency HE . Ashore he has served as a Shipboard Advisor with the Fleet Com- mand Advisory Unit in Vietnam, as a Weap- ons System Engineering Instructor and as the Program Planning and Budgeting Officer for the Surface Combat Systems Division in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Prior to reporting to USS New Jersey, he was the Director of Professional Development at the U.S. Naval Academy. Personal decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Combat V , the Meritorious Service Medal lthree awardsl, the Navy Commendation Medal Ctwo awardsl, the Navy Achieve- ment Medal, the Vietnam Staff Service Medal First Class and numerous unit commendations and citations. l-le was selected to his present rank on 4 Feb- ruary 1985. Captain Katz is married and has two children. I-lis wife, Sharon, is also from Bluefield, West Virginia. Their son, Robert, and daughter, Erica, are both in college in South Carolina and California, respectively.

Captain Daniel Salinas II, a native of Donna, Texas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy class of 1966. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and is a graduate of Navy Destroyer School and the Senior and In- tegrated Warfare Courses at the Naval War College. Captain Salinas has served as an Officer-in-Charge of In- shore Patrol Craft for Coastal Divisions Eleven and Twelve, a command that earned the Presidential Unit Citation and Navy and Meritorious Unit Commendations during his tour, as a Program Manager for the Commander, Naval Recruiting Command, as a Flag Secretary for the Com- mander, Naval Surface Group Mid-Pacificg and as a Special Assistant to the Assis- tant Secretary of the Navy, M 8a RA. His sea, assignments include USS Southerland CDD 743D as First Lieutenant and ASW Officer, USS Abnaki CATF 96l as Commanding Df- ficerg and USS Reeves KCG 24D as Executive Officer. Pri- or to reporting to USS New Jersey, he was Commanding Officer of USS Harry W. Hill CDD 9861 Personal decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V , the Purple Heart Med- al, the Meritorious Service 1 Medal ltwo awardsl, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V lthree awardsl, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal l7 awardsl and numerous unit commendations and citations. He was selected to his present rank on 1 August, 1987. Captain Salinas is married to the former Paula Nyman of Haddon Heights, New Jersey, and has three children, -Kristin, Daniel III and David William.
