E? A ' upply This was Supply Department's deployment to shine, and did we ever! We were in the spotlight from the beginning, hosting luncheons, dinners, and receptions for over 4000 guests. ln Sydney we had in excess of 1000 VlPs at a single reception. ln Hobart a major reception was held out on deck while a dinner for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was simultaneously served in the Captainfs inport cabin. Every event hosted by the New Jersey was better than the last and each received rave reviews. But that's not all! Disbursing paid over two million dollars to the crew to facilitate great liberty and to stimulate the local economies. Not only did the Ship's Store satisfy the crew's needs, but there are now over 14,000 NEW JERSEY ballcaps being worn throughout the Pacific Stores Division, as usual, kept the ship stocked in paint, toilet paper, repair parts and the thousands of items necessary to keep this small city running smoothly. The laundry kept the crewfs uniforms ship shape for the many social functions afloat and ashore and each sailor had a fresh Navy haircut as well. The cooks served a quarter million eggs, 380,000 glasses of milk, and over 157,000 cookies, just to name a few items. lt was an extremely successful land funl deployment.
