GEHRING Assistant Medical Officer Assistant Dental Officer Medical Service Corps Officer The job fulfilled by the Medical and Dental Departments on a battleship is many-fold . . . all designed to insure the health and welfare of the crew, and follow through the motto of the Corps- Keep as many men at as many guns for as many days as possible. The physicians, dentists, and corpsrnen are concerned with much more than the complaints of sores, colds, tooth- aches, and bruises encountered each day during sick call. Preventive Medicine, general and military, occupies much ot the Medical Department's time, as daily inspections of food and food handlers, sanitary and safety inspections, and immunizations must constantly be carried out as the ship operates throughout the World, Instructionto the crew in various aspects oi first aid, and particularly in the modem threats of atomic, chemical, and biological warfare also become part of these men's activities.
