Glenwood Rodney Linda William Ann Judy Charles Ruth Carolyn and Walter 20 Class Prophecy The other night as I sat napping by the fire, I had a strange vision. It was as though I had been asleep for a long time and it was the year 1970. I had been traveling with my husband, Sherrill Isbell, for ten years and had just returnedto my home at New Hope. The town had grown so that I hard¬ ly recognized it. , I stopped at the Drive-N-Grillto get a bite to eat and as I looked across the counter into the kitchen, I saw Rodney Kearney washing dishes. I, also, saw another old friend, Rebecca Moore, who, as she shuffled out orders of hamburgers and French fries, informed me on all the latest gossip. Shelby Hill is teaching school in California, and Elaine Smith is nursing at Walter Reed Hospital. Ann and Elton Smith have just become the proud parents of triplets. " Hoss " Gray is now a bus driver for Trailway Bus Company and is taking Mrs. Allen and the Seniors to Washington each year. " Flop " Ramsey is now a nurse at Mercy Hospital and her husband-to- be Robert Lee Smith is a foreman on her father ' s construction job. Using his executive ability, Donald Barrow is the president of a large insurance agency in Goldsboro, while Gary Coker, with all his good looks, is now making a picture in Hollywood. Linda Gardner is an auditor at the Branch Banking and Trust Company and uses her spare time for rearing little Smiths. Lee Blann is a C. P. A. for American Bank of which Richard Hamm, her husband, is president. They have one child, Angela Renae, who is attending kindergarten this year. JudyHinnant is now Mrs. Cuyler Best, Jr. and is busy teaching Cuyler III to draw jets. . I decided to ride downtown and there I saw Jimmy Parks who is a Ford salesman. He informed me that Douglas Sauls gained his wealth by writing joke books. He, also, told me that James Sutton has become a business executive and has lots of pretty secretaries with Hilda Smith being the head of the group. I rode down Park Avenue and who should I see but Glenwood Spence, just taking life easy, sitting on the lawn in front of his mansion After taking in all the city sights, I decided to drive through the country. I saw Mrs. Wellon Pittman, the former Carolyn Lassiter, and Frances Creech standing at the window of Carolyn ' s home watching all the little Pittmans and Creeches in the backyard playing basketball. Using the most modern farm machinery, Billy Tillman, John Vandiford, Bobby Lancaster, Marvin Uzzell, Charles Anderson, Joe Gay, and C eve- land Coker were happily tending their crops. As I drove through Elroy, I saw an old car belonging to Paul Anderson, and decided to stop and see him. When I walked into the old shack, I saw Paul, Charlie Morse, Philip Overman, and Colin Smith sitting around a table chatting. I sat down with them for a while and they told me that Ben had traded the old Mercury for a 1970 red Impala Chevrolet, that Walter Smith had made Linda Corbett his bride, and that William Smith had finally traded the " Gray Ghost " for a 1970 Ford. I went to Hood Swamp and saw Barbara Gurley. She was married and had one little girl with long black curls. She told me that Ruth Kennedy, now Mrs. W. L. Britt, lived in Calypso and had two children. I learned that Carol Robbins lives with her husband at Carolina Beach and that Linwood Earl Smith owns a large oil company in Adamsville where he lives with his family. As I continued to sit by the fire, I realized that my vision was fading and everything seemed dimmer and dimmer. This trip into the land of tomorrow had been a wonderful experience. 21 1 SnfltipP MOST POPULAR Florence and Walter MOST ATHLETIC Robert Lee and Carolyn V ' - - Kenneth Aldridge Frank Anderson Linwood Anderson Gene Boyette Kenneth Creech Frank Butler Gene Daly Nancy Corman Jessie Daniels Betty Jean Eakes Donald Edwards Joanne Edwards Buren Ellis Linda Grady Betty Lou Ginn Patsy Gray Ruby Jean Goodson Marie Gurganus Inf E5I33 Evelyn Gurley Gail Herring Louis Jacobs Charles Johnson Rosemary Keel Everette Lancaster Geraldine Lancaster Linda Lancaster Margaret Mann " J j) Moye Rachel Overman Joyce Owens Rebecca Parks Ann Price Sammy Parks Ace Robbins Durwood Peele Joe Roberts Douglas Smith Fleeta Mae Smith George Smith James Smith Delois Stewart Judy Smith Phil Sutton Sandra Smith Kendall Teachey i John Thomas Grace Thompson Gloria Uzzell Sandra Uzzell Rebecca Whisnant Frankie Watson Walter Whitfield Patricia Wells Brent Williams |p . . .
