,f- - A ui! .l s. xx N , W y 0I 8l,U0l Following the tradition established by former yearbook staffs, the 1950 edition will also have as its name Leoninus. Many readers ask: Why this name? We would like to pause briefly to clarify our continued use of this name. The term it- self is derived from the Latin word Leo, meaning lion. Be- cause custom has given us the king of the jungle as the crowning symbol of our school seal, so it also accounts for the annual name of our yearbook publication. Our aim in publishing the 1950 Leoninus has been to il- luminate the pathway of high school life, to publicize our ac- tivities and achievements made possible by the untiring efforts of our classmates. fm X NH X cgn mem oriam Jguiib., ...Wil The faculty and student body note with deep regret the passing of Mrs. Kathryn Overly, who died October 9, 1949. Mrs. Overly was a graduate of Millersville State Teachers College, and had taught the third grade in the New Holland Schools for over sixteen years. Previously she had been a mem- ber of the faculty at Leola and Honey Brook. Mrs. Overly, while serving' at New Holland, demonstrated far more than an excellent ability to instruct. The high value she placed on such traits as promptness and correctness make hei' absence felt all the more. Typical of her ways were the many times in which she placed her profession in a position higher than her physical well-being. These habits, in addition to her careful appreciation of time and its value to others, combined to form a most respected per- son, whose loss is keenly felt in the New Holland Schools. e 1 -5 Pane Pour
