-11 MARY ELLEN HOWE Shawl November 11, 1927 Glee Club 11,2,3,41g Usher, Senior Play 141. Mary Ellen is one of the smallest members of the class, but that does not mean that she is not seen around . . . oh, no, for Shorty has spread her sweet smiles through the Alma Mater for twelve whole years. She spends all her extra-time typing for the New Holland Machine Company. Her nimble fingers also do much filing. She intends to continue her work for that firm for quite some time. Did you just see that whiz or feel a slight breeze? Perhaps Mary Ellen is out peddling her bicycle again . . . this being her favorite sport. Scientists have not found the time to invent a new type of speedy convertible for Shorty, but she's happy anyway since nothing bothers her except the rain and long distances. Mary Ellen also has considerable talent in the art field. She loves to paint fiowers and decorate glassware. We wish you the best of luck, Mary Ellen! . Coming to join us in the freshman year, Bertha has become a well-known character in our class. She received the first eight years, of her education in the Goodville schools, of which she is very proud. Her strong alto voice has been quite an asset to our Glee Club for the past four years. She has also proven her abil- ity in music by serving as pianist for the past two years. Bertha is very much interested in sports. 'She plays on the girls' basketball team and participates in other sports as well. She attends most of the boys' games and lends her voice to the worthy cause of yelling and cheering our team to victory. After graduation she intends to enter the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. She deserves all life can give her . . . so, lots of luck to one swell girl. WILLIAM M. KURTZ Willie January 3, 1928 Band 11,2,3,41g Orchestra 12,3,41g Band Manager 13, 417 Class Secretary 1313 Class President 1415 Senior Play 141. Willie, as Bill is known to his Senior classmates, is a rather quiet but alert student. He proves the adage that It's better to keep your eyes open and your mouth shut . . . you will learn more. As Jeff in Brother Goose, Bill showed his acting ability by keeping his iiock of children in hand. He has proven his executive capabilities during his term as Senior President. Willie is from Conestoga Street, but he is almost invar- iably seen heading for the East End where Josie lives. His interests too, are in sports, for Bill is an active participant in soccer and track. Although Bill's future plans are undecided, we're sure he'll succeed. Page Fourteen

Goodie, as N. Eugene Good is called by his classmates, came to N.H.H.-S. from Voganville. He is the artist of the Senior Class. His artistic talents have led him to study archi- tecture and Home Planning. He served as a very capable class president in our Junior year, and also in other executive capaci- ties throughout high school. When an Oldsmobile, with a slightly dented fender is seen parked in front of a certain house on Brimmer Avenue, you can be sure it's Goodie paying Eby a visit. Goodie is active in sports and takes part in many other school activities. We don't know who will claim him, Uncle Sam or College, but we're wishing him a successful career. This tall blonde lad has been with us ever since we were lit- tle tots in first grade. He has served us well as sports manager for two years, and has also given quite a bit of his time and tal- ent to our school paper, becoming sports editor in his senior year. A hard worker, Rod was always ready to lend a helping hand in anything to be done for the school or class. His name can be found on many honor rolls. Girls have never seemed to bother Hoober to any extent. His future is definitely decided. After graduation, he in- tends to enter a preparatory college for four years. Up-on com- pletion, we will find Rod enrolled in a medical college special- izing in medicine. We do not know where he will start his practice, but wherever it is, we know he will do justice to a noble profession. EARL LEROY HOSTETTER Bud December 20, 1927 Earl spent his first eight years of school between the Inter- course and New Holland school systems. He started high school at East Lampeter, but came to New Holland in his Sophomore year. Being the wolf of the class puts a lot of weight on his shoulders, but he really doesn't mind. In fact, he rather enjoys it. His Hudson coupe is kept very busy racing from place to place in pursuit of numerous social engagements. Earl is very quiet in school, but he really opens up when he gets away from the school environment. Basketball is his favorite sport. He is frequently seen at the basketball games with some cute number from a neighbor- ing community. Page Thirteen

l A -ee APRIL ARDEN LAMMEY Lammey January 19, 1928 Patrol 11,2,3,41: Circulation Manager, T.C.N. 13,419 Quill and 'Scroll 143 Glee Club 11,2,3,41g Business Staff, Leoninus 141. This tall, pretty Senior has been with us for twelve long years and has been popular and well-liked by the entire class. In ninth grade Lammey won the American Citizenship Award presented by the Lions Club, and she really deserved this honor. April is very quiet in school, but is very witty and amusing at all times. She is often seen dashing into school before that last bell rings. April has been the circulation manager of the T.C.N. two years in succession. She is often accused of writing late news items on the Quill and Scroll poster. She likes dancing and is a very popular partner at dances. She is very fond of a Honey Brook lad, but when she goes to visit there she says she only goes to visit her grandmother. She is also fond of football play- ers and is an ardent fan of that sport. She is undecided about her future. She may become a laboratory technician or settle for a home-maker's life. THELMA JUNE LANE Lame June 10, 1928 Glee Club 13,413 Patrol 1313 T.C.N. Business Staff 1415 Track 1315 Senior Play 141g Treasurer at T.H. H.S. 11,215 Girls' Chorus 11,213 Play at T.H.H.S. 121. Thelma or Lanie is Bowmansville's contribution to the Class of 1946. After going to Terre H-ill High School, she came to New Holland as a Junior. Active in both schools, Thelma can be seen in Glee Club or carrying out the duties of a member of the Business Staff of T.C.N. Lenore Hudson couldn't have been better portrayed in Brother Goose than by Thelma, who did a splendid job of acting the part of a scion of a wealthy family. . Living near Bowmansville, it is only natural that Thelma can often be seen at Sprecher's, for all Seniors go there at one time or another. To take up nursing in the Reading Hospital, is one of her ambitions. She also likes to swim, bowl, and is very good at dancing. There are dates too for Thelma, because she likes movies and all the things that add to popularity. FRANCES REBECCA LITTLE Fran October 12, 1928 Glee Club 11,2,3,41g Band 11,2,3,41g Orchestra 13,41g Tri-Hi-Y Club 12,31 g Class Secretary 121 3 National Honor Society 131: Boots and Saddle Club 131. t'Fran came to us for her last year of high school from Mesa, Arizona . . . and what an addition. Her name appears on the Honor Roll each report period and the Band and Orchestra couldn't get along without her clarinet. Her favorite sport is volley ball, while riding bicycle and roller skating are right down her line. As Eve in the Senior Play, she was a great success with her captivating Southern accent and extreme femininity she put the male sex in a spot. Frances is always ready to lend a helping hand to some friend who is muddled by a perplexing Chemistry problem. She knows exactly what to do next and no problem seems too deep for her. She intends to continue her schooling by going to college, where she will major in music if Don doesn't change her mind. As Frances has too strong a character to be led astray, we know she will do what she thinks is best. Page Fifteen
