We dedicate this issue of Leoninus to Mr. J. Harvey Shue, the former principal of our school, now serving in that capacity at Hightstown, New Jersey. Mr. Shue was a true friend, teacher and "father" to us during' his period of service in our school. He had worked, watched and guided us during the major part of our school life. It was he who shared our troubles., diffi- culties and pleasures . . . he who put forth tireless effort in trying to correct and mould our young lives . . . he who was never too busy to give ear to our problems and 'those of our parents. Again we Wish to express our thanks and appreciation of his efforts, his interest and his sincerity, which were all directed into our channels. As our final symbol of recognition, we offer this dedication to our one true friend . . . He is often seen in the New Holland Meat Market sewing steaks or other produce to the town people. Carl also likes to "hang-out" at Sprecher's as do many other members of the Senior Class. ' . His cheery face can be seen- in many of Miss McCor1nack's commercial classes and he never fails to add his timely remarks after a joke. Carl's interests are varied, but one of his favorite sports is ice-skating. His dad's green car is often seen at one town or another near Blue Ball. With his experience as a bookkeeper and storekeeper, "Adams" will be a valuable asset to the Meat Market or any other business with which he would be affiliated. JEAN FLORENCE BAIR "Jean" January 30, 1928 Glee Club 11,2,3,41 3 Patrol 12.,3,41g Usher, 'Senior Play 141. Jean joined our class in ninth grade as a rather quiet littlc freshman and has held that trait ever since. Our school seem- ed quite large and strange to Jean since she came from East Earl, which only has a one-room school-building. It didn't take too long until she became acquainted and was ready to receive as much knowledge as she could possibly acquire. The Glee Club has claimed Jean during her four years in school, and she enjoys learning new songs which the Glee Club acquires from time to time. Jean has also proven to be quite an efficient and faithful patrolman. When the buzzer rings for classes to change, she dashes out to her post quick as a iiash. Jean expects to enter a hospital to become a nurse after graduation. With her kindness and willingness to help others, we are sure she will be a second Florence Nightingale. MARY ALICE BRENEMAN "Bunny" February 24, 1923 Glee Club 13,415 Editorial Staff, T. C. N. 141, Patrol 1313 Dramatics Club 1113 Girls' Chorus 11,21g G.A.A. 121 3 Ofiice Secretary 141. "Bunny" was born in Beartown. Before entering New Hol- land as a Junior, she attended Morgantown High School. Since coming to New Holland, she has proven herself a worthy com- mercial student. Because of her commercial ability Mary Alice was chosen as Office Girl for the second semester of the school term. She can continually be heard asking a member of the class, "What time is it?" She wants to ring those buzzers on time. ' Although she is one of the shortest members of the class, she has a rather dominating character. It is quite obvious that "Bunny" has made friends with the students as well as the teachers. Mary Alice is very busy with the office work, but she is able to spare a few minutes for reading some good books. She also lends her voice to the Glee Club. What "Bunny" has in mind for the future is rather in- definite at the present time, but whatever her choice may be we know she will succeed. Page Ten 1 p LEONA VALERIA BRENNEMAN "Leona" December 22. 1928 Glee Club 11,2,3,41. Here we meet one of the quietest members of the class. S-he may be shy, but she always has a friendly "Hi" for anyone she meets. Leona is a native of Blue Ball, and entered N.H.H.S. as a freshman. She has taken the Commercial side of school life and has developed her typing ability to a rapid 'rate of speed. Al- ready she dreams of taking dictation in a future secretarial position. Leona raised her voice in song with the soprano section of the Glee Club for four years. She has the sweetest, kindest air about her and she does very well in the domestic arts. Leona even bakes cakes! Along with her quiet manner and pleasing habits, Leona always-has time' to help a friend in need. She will go places with her personality. "Cherry," as she is called, joined us in ninth grade and has been an active member of our class. She is well liked by all, but, she seems to prefer the opposite sex and can often be seen in their company. "Cherry" has been an active member in sports and has help- ed to manage the girls basketball team during the first semester this year. She is an ardent commercial student and could often be seen dashing' to the ofiice to ring that buzzer. She also help- ed to manage the magazine contest and did a good job. She is still puzzled about the future. Perhaps she will become a secre- tary or a housewife . . . who knows? "Petey" has been with us since he started school in first grade. He was born in Honey Brook, but moved to New Hol- land at the age of three. 4 "Petey" is the owner of that 'hearty laugh that can be heard after a member of the class has pulled a corny joke. Sports are "Petey's" chief interest. "Shoot it, shoot it" cry the students from the bleachers as "Petey" makes a perfect shot from the center of the fioor, chalking up two more points for New Holland. He has played on the basketball team for the past three years and was chosen captain of the varsity this year. "Petey" participates in sports other than basketball and is regarded as a very good athlete. "Dutt" hails from Churchtown and spent three years of his high school life at New Holland. The other year was spent at San Francisco, Calif. While visiting in San Francisco, Charles was fortunate enough to obtain a position as a Messenger Boy at the U.N.O. Conference. He can tell some very interesting stories about situations that arose there. If there are any com' ments from a corner of the room, you can rest assured that they are "Dutt's." Whatever the topic, he seems to have some inter- esting views about it. and when Charles doesn't understand a problem, he is sure to get a complete explanation of it. Playing the piano is a pastime for "Dutt," but he has no de- sire to take up music as a career . . . he would rather be an un- dertaker. O-o-oh, "Dutt," what a career! This petite, dark-haired miss entered our class in twelfth grade. She formerly attended Upper Leacock High School. Janet can often be seen tackling her trig problems and won- dering just why she can't get the right answer. She is the only girl in trig class, but that doesnit seem to bother her. She has shown a great talent for drawing and music. We are sure that she will succeed in either of these fields. Janet has also helped in the cafeteria during the noon-hour. "Snooks', seems to be a firm believer in the old saying "Silence is Golden," but her laughter is heard many times during the day. She seems to ignore the opposite sex, but we are sure that her attitude will soon change. We know she will have good luck in any field of work she chooses. MARY EBY FOX "Marie" September 18, 1923 Glee Club 145, Editorial Staff, T.C.N. 141. Mary hails from the near-by town of Terre Hill, and is bet- ter known to her close friends as "Marie," She is very adroit in speech-making. They are never of mediocre standing, for Marie makes the Senior class gasp with admiration as she fluent- ly delivers her speeches. Mary is also an ardent Home Econom- ics student. She has helped to whip up many delectable dishes and has shown her ability to "sew a fine seam." Mary also believes in the fact that "Silence is Golden," but her pleasing personality and attractive simile wins her many friends. She spends much of her leisure time reading books and preparing for her entrance to college. She also takes quite a bit of interest in Glee Club and T.C.N. The Honor Roll seldom appears without Mary's name on it, for she's always been an industrious student. The academic course has claimed Mary ever since entering High School. "Marie" wants to enter college and some day be a teacher. "Goodie," as N. Eugene Good is called by his classmates, came to N.H.H.-S. from Voganville. He is the artist of the Senior Class. His artistic talents have led him to study archi- tecture and Home Planning. He served as a very capable class president in our Junior year, and also in other executive capaci- ties throughout high school. When an Oldsmobile, with a slightly dented fender is seen parked in front of a certain house on Brimmer Avenue, you can be sure it's "Goodie" paying "Eby" a visit. "Goodie" is active in sports and takes part in many other school activities. We don't know who will claim him, Uncle Sam or College, but we're wishing him a successful career. RODNEY ROY HOOBER "Rod" September 20, 1928 Quill and Scroll President 1413 'Class Treasurer 131g Band 11,2,3,413 Orchestra 11,2,3,413 T.C.N. 11,2,3,413 Advertising Manager, T.C.N. 121 3 rSp0rts Editor, T.C.N. 141, Senior Play 1413 Patrol 11,2,3,413 Track 12,313 Editorial Staff, Leoninus 141 3 Glee Club 11,2,3.41 3 Soc- cer 12,3,413 Sports Manager 12,31. This tall blonde lad has been with us ever since we were lit- tle tots in first grade. He has served us well as sports manager for two years, and has also given quite a bit of his time and tal- ent to our school paper, becoming sports editor in his senior year. A hard worker, "Rod" was always ready to lend a helping hand in anything to be done for the school or class. His name can be found on many honor rolls. Girls have never seemed to bother Hoober to any extent. His future is definitely decided. After graduation, he in- tends to enter a preparatory college for four years. Up-on com- pletion, we will find "Rod" enrolled in a medical college special- izing in medicine. We do not know where he will start his practice, but wherever it is, we know he will do justice to a noble profession. EARL LEROY HOSTETTER "Bud" December 20, 1927 Earl spent his first eight years of school between the Inter- course and New Holland school systems. He started high school at East Lampeter, but came to New Holland in his Sophomore year. Being the "wolf" of the class puts a lot of weight on his shoulders, but he really doesn't mind. In fact, he rather enjoys it. His Hudson coupe is kept very busy racing from place to place in pursuit of numerous social engagements. Earl is very quiet in school, but he really opens up when he gets away from the school environment. Basketball is his favorite sport. He is frequently seen at the basketball games with some cute number from a neighbor- ing community. Page Thirteen -11 MARY ELLEN HOWE "Shawl" November 11, 1927 Glee Club 11,2,3,41g Usher, Senior Play 141. Mary Ellen is one of the smallest members of the class, but that does not mean that she is not seen around . . . oh, no, for "Shorty" has spread her sweet smiles through the Alma Mater for twelve whole years. She spends all her "extra-time" typing for the New Holland Machine Company. Her nimble fingers also do much filing. She intends to continue her work for that firm for quite some time. Did you just see that "whiz" or feel a slight breeze? Perhaps Mary Ellen is out peddling her bicycle again . . . this being her favorite sport. Scientists have not found the time to invent a new type of speedy convertible for "Shorty," but she's happy anyway since nothing bothers her except the rain and long distances. Mary Ellen also has considerable talent in the art field. She loves to paint fiowers and decorate glassware. We wish you the best of luck, Mary Ellen! . Coming to join us in the freshman year, Bertha has become a well-known character in our class. She received the first eight years, of her education in the Goodville schools, of which she is very proud. Her strong alto voice has been quite an asset to our Glee Club for the past four years. She has also proven her abil- ity in music by serving as pianist for the past two years. Bertha is very much interested in sports. 'She plays on the girls' basketball team and participates in other sports as well. She attends most of the boys' games and lends her voice to the worthy cause of yelling and cheering our team to victory. After graduation she intends to enter the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. She deserves all life can give her . . . so, lots of luck to one swell girl. WILLIAM M. KURTZ "Willie" January 3, 1928 Band 11,2,3,41g Orchestra 12,3,41g Band Manager 13, 417 Class Secretary 1313 Class President 1415 Senior Play 141. "Willie," as Bill is known to his Senior classmates, is a rather quiet but alert student. He proves the adage that "It's better to keep your eyes open and your mouth shut . . . you will learn more." As "Jeff" in "Brother Goose," Bill showed his acting ability by keeping his iiock of children in hand. He has proven his executive capabilities during his term as Senior President. "Willie" is from Conestoga Street, but he is almost invar- iably seen heading for the East End where "Josie" lives. His interests too, are in sports, for Bill is an active participant in soccer and track. Although Bill's future plans are undecided, we're sure he'll succeed. This tall, pretty Senior has been with us for twelve long years and has been popular and well-liked by the entire class. In ninth grade "Lammey" won the American Citizenship Award presented by the Lions Club, and she really deserved this honor. April is very quiet in school, but is very witty and amusing at all times. She is often seen dashing into school before that last bell rings. April has been the circulation manager of the T.C.N. two years in succession. She is often accused of writing late news items on the Quill and Scroll poster. She likes dancing and is a very popular partner at dances. She is very fond of a Honey Brook lad, but when she goes to visit there she says she only goes to visit her grandmother. She is also fond of football play- ers and is an ardent fan of that sport. She is undecided about her future. She may become a laboratory technician or settle for a home-maker's life. THELMA JUNE LANE "Lame" June 10, 1928 Glee Club 13,413 Patrol 1313 T.C.N. After going to Terre H-ill High School, she came to New Holland as a Junior. Active in both schools, Thelma can be seen in Glee Club or carrying out the duties of a member of the Business Staff of T.C.N. "Lenore Hudson" couldn't have been better portrayed in "Brother Goose" than by Thelma, who did a splendid job of acting the part of a scion of a wealthy family. . Living near Bowmansville, it is only natural that Thelma can often be seen at "Sprecher's," for all Seniors go there at one time or another. To take up nursing in the Reading Hospital, is one of her ambitions. She also likes to swim, bowl, and is very good at dancing. There are dates too for Thelma, because she likes movies and all the things that add to popularity. FRANCES REBECCA LITTLE "Fran" October 12, 1928 Glee Club 11,2,3,41g Band 11,2,3,41g Orchestra 13,41g Tri-Hi-Y Club 12,31 g Class Secretary 121 3 National Honor Society 131: Boots and Saddle Club 131. t'Fran" came to us for her last year of high school from Mesa, Arizona . . . and what an addition. Her name appears on the Honor Roll each report period and the Band and Orchestra couldn't get along without her clarinet. Her favorite sport is volley ball, while riding bicycle and roller skating are right down her line. As "Eve" in the Senior Play, she was a great success with her captivating Southern accent and extreme femininity she put the male sex in a spot. Frances is always ready to lend a helping hand to some friend who is muddled by a perplexing Chemistry problem. She knows exactly what to do next and no problem seems too deep for her. She intends to continue her schooling by going to college, where she will major in music if "Don" doesn't change her mind. As Frances has too strong a character to be led astray, we know she will do what she thinks is best. She IS probably laughing at some silly j ore which is being told by some loquacious senior. Jeanne can be seen standing on patrol every day in the cafe- teria. All the students seem to enjoy her company. Jeanne has a disposition that can be resisted by no one. She enjoys nothing better than having a good healthy laugh with a group of stud- ents. Who doesn't like to go to J eanne's place after a goorl inovie for some jitterbugging and a few refreshments! For a profession Jeanne desires to be an air line hostess. She hopes to gain all her knowledge at Temple School of Nursing in Philadelphia. To complete her general course, she is taking algebra after school. It seems that Jeanne has quite a time figuring which is which, and what x equals. Stick to it, Jeanne, and you will be happy in the mastery of it. . JUNE HANNAH MEANS "June" February 5, 1928 Glee Club 11,2,3,41g Basketball 11,215 Soccer 131g Editorial Staff, Leoninus 141. June, after having received her early education at Church- town, joined our ranks as a Freshman. Although a girl of few words, she soon became a real pal to all. Both classmates and teachers admire J une's ability to crowd out a dejected and dis- couraged countenance with a slofw, broad smile. Throughout high school, June has been a conscientious student, her name frequently appearing on the honor roll. June likes to attend all the basketball games and support her team with a loud "Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight New Holland Fight!" After graduation June expects to enter the Lancaster Gen- eral Hospital's School of Nursing and follow this admired pro- fession. GEORGE L. This tall, good-looking brunette was baptized George, but where high school students are concerned he's only known as "Gus," or "the guy with the jokes." Whenever humor is needed to dispell our dull moments "Gus" is right on the job. "Gus" is chiefly interested in sports, but has a Wilder intui- tion of causing teachers to become gray sooner. As "Wes" in the Senior Play, George was a great success and showed his abilities with the opposite sex. "Gus" is the guy who knows girls from all parts of the hemisphere. His main hobby is read- ing Esquire, but he also gets a great kick out of the latest mov- ies. His main weakness is losing his Trigonometry book, al- though it usually catches up with him. He intends to go to college after which he will probably be- come manager of his dad's lumber yard. His personality will be an asset to him wherever he goes. Floyd is one of the quieter members of the class, but he en- joys a good laugh the same as the rest. He often helps things along with a quip of his own making. "Myer's" personality makes him well-liked by every mem- ber of the class, and his disposition is such that he gets along very well 'with the members of the faculty. Saturday night is a very important night for Floyd, 'since he can frequently be seen escorting a member of the opposite sex somewhere. MARY ARLENE RUTT "Lemz,' July 2, 1928 Glee Cluib 11,2,3,45g Orchestra 12,3,45g T.C.N. 145, Seni-or Play 1453 Cafeteria 11,45g String Ensemble 13,45. Arlene joined us in ninth grade to broaden her education received at the Blue Ball School. "Lena" attends all Glee Club rehearsals faithfully and plays a violin in the orchestra. As "Helen" in the Senior Play, she made a charming housekeeper for domestic abilities are right down her line. She intends to become a private secretary to some tall, handsome boss when she leaves school. Her accurate typing and rapid shorthand should certainly take her places. We wish you the best of luck, Arlene, for you are very deserving! A LOYCE LA RAE SCHNADER "Schnader" October 18, 1928 Glee Club 11,453 Hockey 11,25 3 Patrol 11,2,3,453 G.A.A. 145, Magazine Contest 13,455 Student Librarian 1353 Track 11,35g Business Manager, Leoninus 145. t'Schnader" is one of the few blondes in our class and a very pretty one too. She has the honor of having spent all twelve years of her school life in the New Holland Schools, and that is something which all Seniors cannot claim. She can always he seen laughing or talking, and wherever she is there is never a dull moment. She attends all school activities and works hard trying to get her lessons done in school. One of her favorite pastimes is reading and she is often seen reading in class. Loyce was a very good librarian and has often helped you to find that certain book you just had to have. She is studious in her commercial subjects, and was the manager of the maga- zine contest this year. Being very active in sports, she has won several awards. "Schnader" is very fond of the Navy, and can be seen writing letters. Who is the lucky man? Page Seventeen -, MELVIN BURKHOLDER SENSENIG "Mel" April 19, 1928 T.C.N. Business Staff 12,415 Glee Club 12,3,41g Patrol 121g Business Staff of Leoninus 141. "Mel1" is the tall, dark, handsome Casanova of our class, who is admired by the opposite sex. You can be sur that his inter- ests follow the same line. He is often seen trying to figure out a way to bribe his father for the car, just once more. "Mel" is very active, however, and he can often be heard asking questions in Chemistry Class. He is well-known for his famous English speeches, and for his arguing or debating on a certain question. He has been a very efficient business staff member of T.C.N., and could often be seen adding up a large column of figures. He works after school in his father's garage, and we have heard that he hopes to possess one of those new cars soon. Melvin is undecided about his future, but we are sure that whatever field of work he chooses, he will make his Alma Mater proud of him. DORIS ARLENE SHAUB "Shaubie" February 18, 1928 Patrol 13,41 5 Glee Club 11,3,41 9 Editorial Staff, T.C.N. 13,41 5 Quill and Scroll 141 g Building and Grounds Com- mittee 141g Basketball 1115 Cafeteria Cashier 13,41. One of the smallest members of the class, "Shaubie," too, has been with us for twelve years. This brown-haired, blue- eyed miss has added contributions to our class, including that strong alto voice in Glee Club. She is also the Assistant Editor of T.C.N., and a member of the Quill and Scroll. Besides performing all her school duties, Doris finds time for recreation. Roller skating is one of her favorite sports and during week-ends she spends most of her time at the skating rink. She also is good at Hcuttin' a rug," and she can be seen at all the community dances doing so. Doris is the girl that is ready with a smile and an encour- aging word for everyone. Her willingness to work has helped make many a class activity a success. DOROTHY GRACE SHEAFFER "Dot" November 15, 1928 Band 11,253,415 Orchestra 11,2,3,41g Glee Club 11,2, 3,413 Basketball 12,3,41g Soccer 13,41: Hockey 11,215 Track 12,31g Basketball Captain 13,419 G.A.A. 1313 G.A.A. President 141. "Dot" is the musician of our Senior Class, especially talented in playing her trumpet. Our class is proud to have someone with your musical ability, "Dot." She is also very capable in leading the High School Band and Orchestra, and we believe she could get a job anywhere, any time. Sheatfer likes all kinds and types of sports, but basketball is one of her favorites, and as a forward, she really keeps her guard on the go. We announce with pride the fact that she won the Daughters of the American Revolution Award this year. This honor is based upon dependability, loyalty and citizenship. Her pleasing personality and dark brown eyes have won her many friends. She came to New Holland High in our Freshman year, and certainly was welcomed by all. Page Eighteen E.. A - HARRY BRISBIN SKILES "Hen" January 4, 1929 Basketball 12,311 Baseball 12,3,41g Soccer 141g Senior Play 131, Class Ofiicer 12,313 Glee Club 11,2,3,41. Harry is one of the two students in our class who came from Salisbury for his fourth year of high school. Harry's winning smile and curly hair bring him many friends. It is always 'tHen" who laughs longest with that mischiev- ous twinkle in his eyes. He is known as "the gentleman of the class" and nary a handkerchief can drop without Harry being on the job. Perhaps his brisk attention can be traced back to his age . . . he is one of the youngest members of the class. An early bird, that's Harry, for every morning he arrives two hours early for school. Harry never neglects his school work and believes in having everything done on time. He especially likes hunting and Iishing. He has one main weakess . . . never is his week complete without at least one trip to Gap. Harry, you aren't blushing, are you? JOSEPHINE SNADER "Josie" June 24, 1928 Glee Club 1l,2,3,41 g Basketball 12,31 3 Senior Play 141 g Hockey 131, Drum Majorette 13,41. "Josie," christened in Manheim, where she was born, came to N.H.H.S. back in 1942, as a Freshman. Those days are re- membered by "Josie" and other Seniors as times when rushing here and there or doing loads of studying were unknown. "Josie" has been the high school band drum majorette for two years, and did a good job of getting the band ready for a parade on short notice, or teaching younger girls how to twirl a baton. We don't know what her plans are for the future, but in- cluded in the possibilities probably will be college and a dress- designing career. Josephine works hard and does her studying conscientiously, which labels a person, when out of school, as dependable. HAROLD ROBERT SOLLENBERGER "Sally" October 18, 1927 Basketball 12,3,41g Baseball 12,3,41g Soccer 1413 Glee Club 1l,2,3,41g Quartet 1415 Circulation Manager, Leoninus 141. From the neighboring township of Salisbury comes Harold, best known among the students as "Solly." He is that tall, handsome guy, who plays center for the New Holland High School Basketball team. "Selly" is well-known among the female members of N.H. I-I.S. He acquired his first eight years of schooling at the Mt. Airy school. From there he entered the Salisbury Township High School, completing their three-year course. He then came to New Holland to complete his fourth year of high school, and to gain a second diploma. Although he likes all sports he especially likes baseball, and basketball comes second. Being handicapped by living so far away from the school hasn't hinder- ed his participation in sports at all. Page Nineteen 3 3 JEAN MADONNA STARR "Skip" September 15, 1928 Glee Club 11,2,3,413 Orchestra 13,41 3 Senior Play 1413 Patrol 11,2,3,41 3 Band 13,41 3 Band Manager 13,41 3 String Ensemble 13,41 3 Secretary of Class 121 3 Co-Editor, Leoninus 1413 Soloist 141. This dark-haired lass hails from Bridigeville, and has been a member of our class for the past four years. Since her ar- rival, she has made quite a name for herself. Jean has not only lent her mellow soprano voice to the Glee Club, but rendered a beautiful solo at the Christmas Carol Ser- vice. "Skip" also has acting ability, which was brought to light when she portrayed the part of the Negro maid, "Sarah," in the Cla-ss Play. You can always tell that Jean is happy for she is always laughing and joking with the rest of the class. Serious- ly, though, she is really very studious and her name is frequently seen on the honor roll. To become a lady in white seems to be one of her greatest desires in life. -She has been seen quite fre- quently with a former graduate of the school. Who knows she may settle down and make home-life her career. MARGARET LUCILLE STAUFFER "Teal" . March 9, 1928 Editor, T.C.N. 13,413 Quill and Scroll 1413 Glee Club 1l,2,3,413 Band 13,413 Hockey 11,213 Class President 11,213 Class Treasurer 1413 Senior Play 1413 Soccer 13,413 Orchestra 1413 Track 1313 G.A.A. 1313 Co- Editor, Leoninus 141. Who is responsible for that giggle in yonder corner? It's Lucille listening to some corny joke. "I betcha," her favorite saying in the Class Play, won her much renown as the haughty little "Hy." Lucille, who is better known to her classmates as "Teal," obtained her elementary education in Goodville, joined our ranks as a Freshman. Never has an honor roll appeared without Lucille's name on the top. Zoom! A green flash! That is only "Teal" with her Dad's green Chrysler. If she isn't taking someone home from school, you can be sure she is taking a load of kids to a basketball game. If Lucille is not slaving away as the capable editor of the T.C.N., she may be found passing her time either playing the piano or the drum. She takes quite an interest in music, but since she has nothing definite for the future she may consider journalism, or nursing. Whatever career you choose, Lucille, the best of luck! You have earned it! JAMES HOVYARD STONE "Stowe" October 13, 1928 Basketball 13,413 Soccer 13,413 Baseball 1313 Glee 'Club 141. "Stonie" entered the New Holland Schools in first grade, and has continued his education here for twelve years. Although "Stonie" is one of the shortest members of thc class his height does not limit his abilities. His chief interest is sports and more sports. He very often contributes a composi- tion or a speech on some phase of sports to the Senior collection. He spent all his energy as a guard on the varsity basketball team, in which he was particularly interested. "Stonie" is a husky chap who loves pranks, and his mis- chievous smile can be seen in all classrooms, especially in History Class. Even though he dislikes the subject he has a marvelous memory when it comes to remembering those dates. V Girls are crazy about him, but he won't have anything to do with them . . . or will he? Locked away with one last tear. We are now prepared to meet the world, With hopes towering into the sky: We have moulded our ropes, Now tn ring the bells . . . The bells of the future before us. The ropes are spun of thickened twine, Of happiness and work . . . entitled school, Of the gay times we spent among our friends, Whom we claim as lasting classmates. The ropes are intermingled And shaded with love and kindness, Rendered by teachers who guided our ways, And by parents who stood behind us. The bells will chime our thanks to them, Who helped us in our ways: For gratitude we grant success And progress through the days. Now hear the ringing of the bells . . . The bells of the Class of '46, They echo, re-echo, then finally sound The story that the future tells. -Lucille S taujer Page Twenty-seven H, ' Mg' 'jp A .,.F'f'l"' f. ,nm H H- 3, C.
