Guthier, band director at our school for many years. During this time, through Mr. Guthier's efforts and sacrifice, our school received many honors, and the name of the New Haven High School Band come to be highly re- spected. All of us who knew him, loved him, and we will never forget his reaction when "we kids" would play in the wrong key. The last line of ci song composed by two band members on the way to a marching contest sums up our feelings about him: "Oh it's R. E. G. who made us the best band in the land."
