J O 'DEDICATION' We, the senior class of 1955, dedicate our yearbook to Wayne 'Ruckn Merrill. We dedicate it to "Buck" for his seven years of faithful teaching at New Gloucester High School. FRESHMAN DAY One of the biggest joys of considered an upperclassmanl i-'S it was our turn to pay honor to And that was the exact thing we At our first class meeting plans for the fortncomlng event becoming a juniorlbesides being Freshman Initation. This year the incoming class of N. G. H. tried to do. of the year we began to make We elected V8P1OUS com ittees to work on Freshman Reception and plan the stunts for Freshman Day We drew names and indlvlcually declded what each of the Freshmen would wear Thursday mornlng, September 23 the day before, I happened to have possesslon of the papers dSSCPlb1ng the costumes to be worn the following day I assure you I was glad to be a JUDIOP for some of he costumes vere rather unusual S. 1 Thursday afternoon we pas ed out those papers to the Freshmen It was extremely humorous to ob erve the Freshmen on Friday mornlng Any V1SitOP at the Hlgh School might have guessed it to be a school for tralnlng clowns The Freshmen were dressed in anythlng and everything, includlng bathlng suits, nlght gowns, long johns and overalls That morn ng we had our own version of Marilyn Monroe, Joe D1Magg1o and Llberace attending school In the morning we wrote in lipstlck, N C S8 on the faces of each Freshman In the afternoon we all gathered 1n main room for a school assmbly After a short t lk from Mr Stampon, Charles Bragdon and Jim Chandler took over nd conducted the program of the afternoon The freshmen were called foreward, slngly or in pairs, and were given varlous tunts to perform We had a pair of dancers who supposedly Jitt rbugged but I'm sure it could have passed for the Hlghl nd Hllng We had a p91nO solo by Llberace. Besides these, one of the glrls sewed a patch on the pants of her classmates The only hltch was th t she w s bllndfolded After each of the freshmen had performed hls or her stunt the whole class gathered and trled to clscover if the girls had better voices than the boys They sang Jingle Bells' Then they all p rtlcipated in a ushoe scramble It was a nlce, engoyable afternoon CNatur lly I'm not speakmng for the freshmen J The freshmen were very good sports about everythlng Th y jolned right 1U the fun, and I thlnk they had a good tlme Q well as the rest of the school In the evenlng we h d the f1PSt chool o ace of the ye r The freshmen were guests nd were tre ted to refreshments before the dance started So now they re full fledced members of the Hlgh School We hope they work h ld and are succes ful t thelr school career Donna Snow 55 1 O . . . 1 . . -, . . .
