PERANNOS 1940 CLASS HISTORY SOPHOMORE YEAR 11937 585 Our first year un hugh school proved quute a full year for us In the fall we organuzed as a class the first Sophomore Class to do so Our offucers were Mary Ann Bowles Presudent Anna Cerretanu Vuce Presudent Mary Lehotzky Secretary and Elsue En quust Treasurer We chose Mrs Rhoads as our sponser At Chrustmas tume we were saddened by the death of Mrs Catherune Prud hommeaux our French teacher and durung Easter vacatuon by the death of Supt Fuller L Austun who had been wuth us sunce September Many of our boys showed theur abuluty and sports manshup un athletucs Among those who went out for football were Gabruel Barrales Mike Vuttu Vuncent Vuttu and Lewus Benko In basketball also our boys proved themselves able Lewus Benko Mrchaelj Vuttu Muke Vuttu Vun cent Vuttu Wulluam jones Frank Bluss and Tony Akromas took part Wuth the openung of the baseball season some of our boys showed theur abuluty un baseball The Vuttus Lewus Benko Kenneth DeForest Tony Akromas Mark Totaro and Wulluam Jones played for N C H S The gurls of our class also partucupated un athletucs In the fall field hockey was started un New Canaan Hugh School for the gurls Among those who went out for thus sport were Audrey Lully Anna Cerretanu Elsue Enquust Carolyn Beardsley Norma Bowler Wunufred Tulley Lulluan Moller Mary Ann and Vur gunua Bowles ulua Spunosa and Frances Thomsen The same gurls went out for basketball and soft a JUNIOR YEAR 0938 391 Our unuor year began un the fall of 1938 and ac cordung to custom we organuzed electung ames Kelley Presudent ohn Steele Vuce Presudent Anna Cerre tam Secretary and Wunufred Tulley Treasurer The fall of 1938 proved to be one of the best football seasons N C H S has known wuth several of our junuors takung actrve partucupatuon un the games Those who saw actron were joe Patterson Long ohn Steele Moose Benko Donald DeForest Chuck Vuttu Escobar Barrales Vunt Vuttu and Emul Annuzuato Managung these stalwart lads was Perp Vuttu Stull vuvudly umprunted un our munds un the memory of that eventful Halloween Dance whuch our class sponsored Close on the heels of thus affaur came the annual unuor Senuor Promenade for whuch our class set the unprecedented custom of chargung an admus suon pruce Other sources of mcome for thus occasuon were a benefit movue held at the Playhouse and a cake sale both of whuch proved to be successful The Basketball season opened wuth a bang pro ducung an all star team uncludung Long john Steele Perp Vuttu Moose Benko and Vunt Vuttu wuth Frank Bluss Bully ones Tony Al-.romas and Chuck Vuttu doung theur part Next came the sprung sports un whuch Chuck Vuttu Mark Totaro Tony Akromas Lefty DeForest Perp Vuttu Moose Benko Vunt Vuttu and Bull jones partucupatedun baseball Among those who went out for track Gabe Barrales Chas Wumberley Tom Vallette Don DeForest Bull Beardsley and oe Tomasellu Chuck Vuttu and Vunt Vuttu were seen playung wuth the golf team Last but not least the tennus team called forth such notables as Beale Foster johnny Steele Davud St john joe Patterson Kenny DeForest and Amory Halley Although luttle attentuon was called to gurls sports many of the junuor gurls took part un basketball hockey soft ball and tennus Thus our unuor Year was brought to a close wuth us all lookung forward to our next year when we would proudly call ourselves Senuors 1J 1 ' 1 ' ' Q D 9 Y 9 ' , , , - I a 1 I . , , , , ....
