QF BONS N THE MAKI G GIBBONS ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL Gibbons School was designed to provide an informal learning environment where students with the inherent abil- ity to succeed will have the opportunity to study and learn at their own pace, in their own way. The term alternative is often defined as another way of doing. That is what Gibbon's is made of: New experience, personal goals, and outside resources with a propelling force of action coming from within. Motivation is our motto. We deal with life on a day to day basis. Society is'in our classroom. We have the freedom to incorporate OUT learning experience into personal and social domains, without being fixed into solely academic pursuits. We abide by the rules of common sense. Flexability and innovation play an important role in our normal school day. As students we accept the responsibility of shaping our learning environment. We, the seniors, reflect on the past year. Gibbons Alternative School is not only the name of a normal high school, but the feeling of mixed emotions within our hearts. This school not only taught us lessons, but also to love one another, and to deal with each other on a one to one basis. Within this year we discovered the real meaning of unity. Togetherness is what we're all about. Although we already know that tears and sorrow could never replace the love and devotion which we had here at Gibbons, The memory of Gibbonswill remain with us forever. Gib- bons has truly been a' meaningful experience. The senior class would likesto dedicate .ourgfuturel to the staff at Gibbons School. Thanks for everything. C ' pg 4 . C ff 4 . I hope your high school experience has given you more than just a good education, but a better understanding of your fellow man, and the beauty of life as well. I am very proud to have been a part of your high school experience. In many ways you have given me far more than I have given you. Now it is your turn to give society a better hope for the future because of the part you will play in it. I know you will do your "thing" well, and ultimately help make our world a better place to live in. Although you are leaving NBHS, I hope you will return whenever you can to let me know how you are doing or just to say hello. If I can ever be of any help to you in any- way, just let me know. I'll miss you all, and think of you often. I Good luck, and God's speed to you all. F . .VK Na 421 4 ,,,,, AD INISTRATIO :id 5 R43 me ff N ,-.mfr '.,. 5 1 SAMUEL M. Career total 1032 points-good luck on the basketball court at college. CAROL HAMILTON-was selected by audition to participate in the 1973 ALL STATE CHORUS of New jersey-one of the highest musical honors a student in vocal music can attain in the state. Her selection of this peer group based upon very high standards of musical accomplishment, required a fine voice, possessing a beautiful tone quality, excellent intonation and musicianship. Sight-reading was also essential to acceptance in this outstanding organization. We take great pride in Carol Hamilton's achievement. MARY ELLEN HARRIS-Congratulations to Mel who is the recipient of the 1974 DAR award. Mel is an industrious worker and a dedicated member of her class and they wish her well upon receiving this award. MERYL HAUPTMAN-Meryl Hauptman has been named N.B.H.S. 1973-74 Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomor- row. Meryl won the honor of competing with other seniors in the written knowledge and aptitude examination on Dec. 4, 1973. She received a specially designed award from General Mills, Inc. sponsor of the annual educational scholarship program, and is now eligible for state and national honors. GUS SFANTOS-The N.B. soccer team posted a 3-11 season this year. However, gray skys don't necessarily mean there are no stars as was proven by Gus Sfatos N.B.'s inside left. Gus's skills, techniques, team effort and overall total committment to the sport of soccer won him honors on the All-County and All-State teams this season, no easy task to be sure. There exists no recipe or prescription for greatness. Each individual has attributes common to himself alone. In recalling Gus's season it may be said that desire was his greatest attribute giving 1007, plus effort. Congratulations to a fine person and talented athlete. BENNY YOUNG-District 19, 148 lbs.
