FOOTBALL The gridiron battles for the fall season of 1947 were none too successful for the Nevis Tigers who were compelled to surrender to their opponents five times before they experienced the thrill of a victory in their final game. This sport usually results in several injuries. A returning letterman, Oscar Burchett, was eliminated in the first game of the season by a. broken l'eg, a serious loss to the squad. The first homecoming celebration in the history of Nevis High School was held on the evening of October 21. This impressive celebration was climaxed by the crowning of the Queen, Dolores Nancarrow, by the co-captains of the football team, Rollo Buck and Vincent Booge. The cheerleaders chosen by the student body for the year were Elaine Otteson, Beverly Wambolt, and Dean Johnson. These students led the rooting section during the football and basketball seasons. BASKETBALL The Nevis Tigers completed their 1947-48 basketball season with a record of nine wins and seven losses. Twenty-five boys reported to Coach Kruger for this winter sport including five letter men, Kenneth Fairchild, Gunnar Husby, Marlyn Avenson, Rollo Buck, and Vincent Booge. On December 10th the home cagers defeated an Akeley quint Z0-19 in the most exciting game of the year. Though this game was won by one point, wide margin scores were general for the year. Comparative totals were as follows: Nevis' total points, 617: opponents' total points, 532: Nevis' total personal fouls, 276g opponents' total fouls, ZZ7. B' ' TEAM BASKETBALL The Nevis Tigers B Squad has completed their season with a record of four wins and nine losses.
