BAND The Nevis High School Band has been progressing under the direction of Mr. Reishus into a group of musicians who are striving to interpret concert music of merit. Many of the com- positions in their repertoire have been written by modern classical composers of high esteem. and readily lend themselves to inter- pretation by the high school band. Though most of the present band members have had previous experience, many promising beginners have been added through- out the year so that a reasonably well-balanced concert band has been developed. Through the cooperation of the village and the school, funds have been made available for music instruction in the school. Promotors ofthe band may be sure that money spent for high school music is an advantageous expenditure for it aids in providing a well-proportioned curriculum for Nevis High School students. SHARPS AND FLATS CLUB The Sharps-And-Flats Club has been an active organization in the past months, and a future of activity is anticipated. It has been the purpose of the club to further music interests and to sponsor programs and band activities. Officers elected by the club members for the 1947-48 school term are: Paul Case, president: Phyllis Fradenburgh, vice- presidentg Rollo Buck, secretary-treasurer: and Mr. Reishus, advisor Though the membership in the club is small, they are under- taking the enormous activity of purchasing a piano for the high school gymnasium. Through the use of club dues, benefit programs, and private donations, the club members are confident that they will succeed in their purpose. I
