FRESHMEN High School education began for twenty freshmen on September 6, 1947 as they entered the assembly officially to help form the rank and file of Nevis High. Perhaps the pace set was too fast or perhaps for other reasons, footsteps led them away! the number diminished to ta final eighteen. During Junior Business class on October 24, the Sophomores invaded the quiet solitude of the assembly wrecking havoc with cold cream and lipstick. The hideously painted faces were part of their official welcome--the traditional initiation, That after- noon the three frosh boys on the football team thought they would fbecause of their horrible looking facesl frighten the Remer team to the point of nonresistance. NeHi did win that game but whether it was because of the appearance of the freshrnen or the team's superb playing will never be known. ' As is customary the freshmen, in response to the party given them on initiation, sponsored an evening of entertainment for the High School. It was, however, far from a party to get even with the sophomores for the tortures inflicted upon them. Eats clim- axed the evening's activities. The class officers, as elected by the freshmen were as follows President--Jean Thompson: Secretary-Treasurer--Joanne Culleyt Student Council Representatives--Ann Irwin and Robert Burchett. The ninth grade boys combined with those of the seventh and eighth grades to form a Boy's Club. under the direction of Mr. Clipson and Mr. I-lanes: a similar club was formed among the girls under Miss Malotky's guidance. The purpose of these clubs QTo provide the students with enjoyment through handicraft, was ful- filled through projects completed by each individual member. The type of projects constructed during the hour given the boys each week were gimp and plexi-glass for braclets, and leather for belts and billfolds while the girls spent their time making shell jewelry and chip-carvingbookends.
