From the time it was known that Havnesville could not be worked in on the Neville schedule. everyone was saving. "who will win between Neville and Haynesville?H Wlell. the Tigers eanie through. but not without a brilliant fight on the part ol Haynes- ville. The State Champs, with a 15-game winning streak and boosting only 25 points being scored on them. outmanned the Tornado Q13 points. End Joel Kirbv drew first blood in the second quarter when he pulled in a pass from All-American Elton Upshaw. bntouchable Terry Reeves sped 19 yards later on in the quarter for a 12-0 lead at half-tinie. Mickey Yerger took the last of the wind from the Golden Tornado when he plunged 4 yards for a neat 6 points. Kirby. Johnson. Keith, and Oliver led the Black and Gold Nevillites defensively. DUN -XLD RAE' HALE GEORGE P-XTTLRNOX Center Tackle NEVILLE 45sJENA 14 Jena was evidently not a contender in the championship race because Neville fairly trounced them 45-14-. Yerger and company put on a brilliant scoring show in front of a sell-out crowd. "The Mick" scored 3 TD7s with Upshaw and DePriest scoring one each. Ray- mond Nelson also covered a Jena fumble in the end zone for six points. Captain Bobby Johnson and Willie Hagan kicked a .UL-yard field goal. The two Jena touch- downs came in the fourth quarter when Tommy Thompson and Jimmy Aldridge hit pay dirt. xii' I Vx K X l3ll.l.Y ALLEN KIYSTY CANll'lllfLL l3ll.LY BlfRNFT'l' lfnrl Quarterliavlt End NFVILLE OWXIINIJIQX 20 There is always somebody lietter than you, and Neville niet her Waterloo a few miles out of Shreveport on a football field. Minden led in rushing yards 246 to 69, and 15 to 6 in first downs. Nevillrfs longest run was a sixty-yard kick-off return hy Willie Hagan. The Crimson Tide's TITS were captured hy Max Rudd. Tonnny Culpepper, and Sam Siniddy. Johnny Hudson converted twice. Jim Sparks was outstanding on defense. There are no excuses for the defeat, except we got beat.
