During this time he has served our school in many capaci- ties. In the first few years as a teacher of math and industrial arts. He has coached almost every sport in his 11 years at Nestucca, football, track and basketball. Mr. Malmquist's dream come true is our new Industrial Arts building which was part of our new building project 3 years ago and a new teacher, Mr. George Voile, to assist him. With the addition of a teacher to help him he has been able to introduce new subj ect areas in our lndus- trial Arts program. When anyone needs advice or help with a project or decorating for special events Mr. Malmquist is the man to see for help. He always knows just how it should be done and lends a helping hand. So to you Mr. Malmquist We dedicate our 1971 annual. I flux. I , ADMINISTR TIO The administration of a school is a com- plex job and includes budgets, curriculum athletics, and numerous other duties. Our principal and our school board have this important task. Mr. Brown pauses from his work for annual photographer. Chuck Bailey, student body president, checks assembly with Mr. Brown. During the winter months, the Juniors again proved invaluable. Two junior boys were in the top ten scorers of the Yawama League and one went to state in wrestling. ln the spring, the juniors sponsored a successful prom and participated in all spring sports. The baseball team boasted several outstanding juniors and the golf team was entirely made up of juniors. Several junior girls starred in track. The class of '72' was not all brawn, though. There are 4 juniors in the National Honor Society, and other juniors consistantly achieving honor grades. Starting off with several quick victories, including a record breaking 111-88 victory over Neah-Kah-Nie, the Bobcats then suffered a set back. No one missed Dan Lenaberg more than his teammates on the team. Stunned by this blow, the Bobcats dropped several games, but eventually the Bobcats forged onward to the District Tourna- ment. There they defeated Amity and Dayton, taking second place, and securing a berth in the State Tournament. At the tournament the Bobcats lost their first two games to Junction City and Reedsport, but the team enjoyed a unique experience in their athletic careers and ended in a winning season. Thoses were happy carefree days when best friends meant a lot, And pretty girls in their colorful dresses brightened the scene. Time passes quickly, graduation came and each one went his own way, college, business, marriage - For a time I helped in our family business, - found a girl to marry Then my country called me to it's service. I didn't want to leave my girl, my family and my friends, but I faced that hard task of serving my country - - Even if I wasn't sure just why. I went, I fought, I gave my life, right or wrong. Your life may be short like mine or you may grow old and bent But whatever it is, long or short - Do your best, be honest with yourself, Because at the end you must face it alone with God. "The Lord is my shepardg I shall not want. . . " "I-Ie restoreth my soul: . . . " "and I will dwell in the the Lord forever. Yet, this class has accomplished much in its four years at NUHS. The class of "7l" has always had a long list of honor roll students, many leaders in student government , and the will to be different.
