The Student Council of H. H. S. functions as a governing body in cooperation with the administration. To hold a position in the Student Council is to hold a position both hon- ored ancl respected by students and teachers alike, One representative is chosen from each home room and one from each class. An all-school election is held in the fall for presidentund for secretary. The vicepresiclent is elected at the be- ginning of the second semester. This year's activities included a student direc- tory and a new handbook. OFFICERS Presf-Glenn Dolence Vice-Pres.-Don McCreary Sec.-Janice Robinson Asst. Wm I I' Uwhedm uaic, Maedbza, Pleaflel Perhaps the most important event of the 1955-1954 year for the band and orthestra was the arrival of the beautiful new uniforms. These were given a prompt initiation at the Harvest Fair and at all the football games which followed. The band marched at Pittsburgs homecoming and in the Joplin Christmas parade. Appearing on television was another highlight as was attending the contests at Joplin, Carthage, and Springfield. ln addition to tontest performantes, the orchestra gave Ll concert for the public in December. They also played for baccalaureate and commencement. Both the band and orchestra are directed by Lloyd Darnell.
