SPANISH CLUB MARILYN LAND President The members: Anyone who can count to ten in Spanish, and can dig up the money for the dues. tlf you can pay the dues, the first requirement may be ignored.l Seriously, the Spanish Club remains one of the tried and true clubs of N. H. S. lts history lies in the dim, dark past . . . we saw a Spanish Club picture in a l9l7 yearbook. But its future seems bright, with its new officers: Marilyn Land, presidentg Mary Lou Matthews, vice- presidentg and Willene West, secretary. While its sponsors have varied from Mrs. Daugherty to the Misses Matters and Banks, to Mr. Summers, the policies have remained the same. The activities of this club are countless, starting with the initiation. The new members are treated to a year of hay rides, Spanish banquets, and at Christmas, an old-fashioned caroling session . . . the lyrics being in Spanish, of course. The club greets new problems with unbounded enthusiasm. They study language, cus- toms and costumes of Spanish-speaking and Latin American countries. As Mr. Summers spent three years in the Pan American countries he is well informed on the subjects. Every year, this club exhibits their knowledge by presenting an assembly to the student body. Only Spanish Club members can participate in this program. There goes the fanfare for the Spanish Club assembly! So, for the present, we'll doff our sombreros, and say, Adios, amigos! Page 23

ROY KENNEY President LATI CLUB Populi Latinae started the year off with a bang! Iust ask any first year member what kind of a bang it was. They should know, as the first action taken by the Latin Club was the initiation. Up with the sun and off to a nice hot breakfast of waffles. Tl'1at's how the initiation started, but by noon the Worn-out victims couldn't decide Whether they'd had Waffles or garlic juice for breakfast. After the second year members had made certain that all of their devilish ideas had been carried out, everyone settled down to make plans for the coming year. Roy Kenney was elected President and Charles Wilson, Vice-President. Secretary and Treasurer were held by Bobbie Hays -and Eleanor Rudd, respectively. Move over, l'm sure there's room for at least three more! You soon found that if you didn't make room for three more, you would be the one running along behind the haywagon. After filling ourselves with Weiners, cakes, and doughnuts, all agreed that the hayride-Weiner roast had been a success and everyone returned home satisfied -and happy fincluding Miss Cant, our patient and understanding sponsorl. Am I dreaming, or is that really Cleopatra standing before me? Yes, it looks as if the members of the Latin Club have again draped their togas and successfully presented their annual assembly. If at any time you're passing Room 31, and hear loud voices singing, Mea pulchra trans jacet oceanum, don't be alarmed, it's just the Latin Club in action. Page

'K I -I 4 I IAMES GIBSON X N President' l I if x fa The N Club is an organization formed in i938 by Molly Matthews and Ralph Brown, since then taken over by Co-ach Martin Rohde. The purpose of this club of athletic lettermen is for the betterment and promotion of competitive sports. The club is one of the active organizations on the campus, sponsoring parties, dances, and other social activities. This year's officers are all members of the Unholy Six, forming the nucleus for the new members coming into the club this year. lames Gibson, football co-captain, is president, in whose absence the club is dependent on Hard-hearted Weber. The pecuniary interests are in the care of Bob Mac Mclntyre, right end on the football team. The club scribe is Charles Wilson, basketball captain. Serving on the board of directors are Raymond Green, grid quarterback, and Max Prunty, football co-captain and high scoring cage star. Until February of this year, the dirty half-a-dozen were the only members. Now the club has a large carry-over membership into next year. It is considered quite an honor to be in this club, as one must have an A letter and the initiation is traditionally rather rough, Page 24
