U. S. S. NEOSHO CAO-1439 cm FLEET Pos'r OFFICE NEW YORK, NEW YORK IN REPLY REFER T0 From: Commanding Officer To: ' All.Pmnds Subj: Two Years of Neosho History Part of the Navy now for almost two years, the Neosho has gone many miles to deliver her cargo in various parts of the globe. As the prototype for a new kind of fleet oiler, she has been the focus of much attention in her short history. The ship and crew have passed, with admirable efficiency, one acid test after another. with many of the kinks ironed out by underway training, the Neosho began really showing what she was built for during last year's midshipman cruise to Halifax, as evidenced by the fine compliments received from other members of the task group. And it was during her tour of duty in the Mediterranean that the ship came into her own as one of the most important components of the fleet. Leaving a trail of new Sixth Fleet fueling records, she received this message from Captain Hazen, Commander Service Force Sixth Fleet: UShe is a great ship merit- ing a well done in all respects.V In May of this year we returned to Europe for a few days with a stop in Lisbon after fueling the May NELM relief group. And more recently the Neosho has had the unusual task of carrye ing water to Bermuda to alleviate th shortage there. Each time, the men of the Neosho have exhibited the teamwork which delivered the goods when it counted. I take this opportunity to congratulate the Neosho's officers and men. This book stands as a dramatic testimonial to the fine accomplishment of AO lh3, A. B. ADAMS, Jr. 9 Captain, U. S. Navy Com anding Officer
