The embodiment of the artist's imagination in physical form is the goal of any artistic endeavor, whether it satisfies a practical need or merely our urge to create. These various forms of creation include the abstract as well as the realistic and all are based to a greater or lesser degree upon the ar- tist's personal view point. For this reason art tends to be a very personal thing, evoking diferent feelings and emotions within each of us. Without these various personal view points, neither beauty nor art could exist in this world. R Shape of Band and Music is another very per- sonal form of art. Reflecting the different forms and aspects of life, music enchants the soul, mind, and body of man. Music enhances school spirit, makes us sad, arouses our passions, and seems to be an integral part of lU'e. At school we may hear the NCHS Marching Govemors on any given moming practicing on the football field, or maybe even the chorus practicing in the auditorium. At several times during the year, we have dances in the gym, and of course, there's always that event of events, the prom. All of these things are an experience at NCHS, a unique musical ex- perience. U , F ' xl -A AA N N 9? My . AIAAAHAAAWW AW ,V AWAAQQAW H, A A VAYWXHM :A A A ' 'WWW ,,,, 'W A Aimwww A- :,f,l.- 4? Providing the means of educa- tion in many trades, the "Vocom" is invaluable to those students who want to leam a trade. The old criticism of a high school education was that it did not properly prepare the student for We in the real world. At NCHS, students are given various opportunities for shap- ing their own personal realities through careers in business, cosmetology, food services, automotive mechanics, building trades, health services, clothing and home fumishings, hor- ticulture, consumer home economics, or agriculture. 1 Shape ofAcadem1ce The academic courses at Nelson County High School, like any other high school, are presented with higher education in mind. Many students feel that college is their gateway to the future. A college education, however, does not necessarily assure the high paying occupation that it once did. Today there is a greater element of risk involved. Why, then, do some people still choose college? Perhaps Aristotle had the answer when he said, "All men by nature desire' to know. Certain people seem to be born with the inherent question of 'VVhy'?" These people jump at every opportunity to expand their knowledge and concept of reality. For people of this nature, college is the logical next step after high school. For, as Emerson once said, 'The things taught in colleges and schools are not an educa- tion, but the means of education." 1 T l , l W 1 n -an Shape of the Pasi l 1 I 1 I4 . We can't very well talk of in- fluences that have shaped our pre- sent realities without pausing a mo- ment to consider our past and our heritage. Our forefathers held dear many hopes and dreams that have been realized by us today. Without yesterdays dreams, today would not exist, and neither will tomormw be unless we hope and dream today, 15 Shape of Moods It has been said that reality is subjective, merely a reflection of our state of mind. We all have hopes, dreams, and fears. We're human. Because of these hopes, dreams, and fears, we are sub- ject to a thousand ddferent moods: happiness, sadness, love, loneliness, etc. These are some of the more personal things in lU'e that we share with those who are close to us. In a sense, we are at any given time, just what we feel. Our feelings and emotions determine those realities we would have and those we would not. Feelings determine our friends, foes, lovers, and associates. Since we all must find our place in the scheme of things, our deepest and truest feelings and emotions will help us. i I 1'1 Shape ofMood4 y V 5 4 Z If l 18' ' - 4 1 l g . v r D 5 J 1 I L r w I A I r i , 1 W iffy , w , V' jj' sw ' Richard WiU'ong C.
