UQAOIUODS of QRGAIIHGSS BGQAH Wlllh US The Class of '67 began on the long road to graduation at another high school in September, 1963. It may be hard to visualize Neff's seniors as frightened freshmen, but freshmen they were and the surge of high school life was completely new to them, Slowly, qualities of athletic and academic ability began to emerge from these fledg- lings, But theirs were not to be four years of bringing honor to this school for their achievements. In September 1964, William N, Neff High School opened its doors and entrusted the Class of '67 with its future. The task seemed impossible. , .for indeed the building would begin from nothing. To be given a high school like a lump of clay, to mold it meant to be a member of the Class of '67 of Neff High School. TRADITIONS OF GREATNESS BEGAN WITH US. As sophomores, the first thing we did was to elect officers. Lead by Mark Edwards, president, Jill Clarke, vice-president, Bonnie Lorig, secretary, and Penny Streeter, treasurer, we selected our junior rings and planned many activities. Member of the Class of '67 brought back many honors from math and speech tournaments. The drama depart- ment produced The Night of January 16th and The Doctor in Spite of Himself. The year was filled with the excitement of the Christmas Dance, the Sadie Hawkins Dance, and recreation nights. By the time the sophomore year drew to a close, the foundation had been established, but work was still from ground up. TRADITIONS OF GREATNESS BE GAN WITH US. The junior year showed that the previous year's dedication and hard work had not been in vain. Returning students discovered an engaging novelty. . .grassl Lead by Don Solanas, president, Vickie,Berry, vice-presidentg Sue Parke, secretary, Karen Moeller, treasurer, and Sue Smith, Social Chairman, we chose our seniors sweaters, planned the Spring Formal, and again sponsored many activities on campus. This was the year of Neff's first really big football season, and our initial effort can only be described as unbe- lievable. The Neff Varsity captured the Hacienda League championship and a berth in the C. I, F. playoffs. Kathy Donohue became Neff' first Letterman's Queen. The Drama department presented Thank You, Doctor and Meet a Body. As in football the varsity basketball team came through for a berth in the C, I. F, playoffs. Many new clubs appeared on campus, and individual students brought honor to Neff through their participation in math and speech tournaments and various testing programs, Todd Lewis won the honor of participation in the state speech tournament at Santa Barbara. The spring formal at Cerritos College climaxed an exciting year, and the fact that we were about to become seniors dawned upon us all. TRADITIONS OF GREATNESS BE GAN WITH US. For many members of the Class of '67, our senior year has been the achievement of a two-year-old goal, the fulfillment of a two-year-old promise. It was though all the doubts and dreams and plans for Neff had solidified into first-class reality. September, 1966 began our reign as seniors. The senior class has proven itself excep- tional in many ways. Class leaders Roy Baumeister, president, Buddy Rumley, vice-president, Mei Trawicki, secretary, Sandy Rossiter, treasurer, and Sue Smith, social chairman guided seniors in the construction of senior square, planning Senior Ditch Day, the All-Night party and many other activities. Our senior year also brought Neff its two first foreign exchange students, Peter Vesti from Demark and Marco Anes from Brazil. Marco particularly added to the excitement and fun of the year. Youth in Government month became a tradition for Neff seniors, with Don Solanas serving as mayor of La Mirada. A prophecy in the 1966 yearbook C'Next year it will be all the way through C. I, F. J came to pass with Neff High becoming first Hacienda League champ for the second straight year and then going on to win the C, I, F, finals in Division A. Climaxing a year that passed all-too quickly was Senior Ditch Day at Disneyland, the Junior-Senior prom at the Disneyland Hotel, the All-Night party at Beverly Bowl in Montebello, and of course graduation. It has been a long and hard three years. Only a few can be called upon to begin a high school and establish its traditions. A fortunate few. We Trojans in the Class of 1967 will not soon forget our years at Neff High School. These years were well spent in preparing us for the future. Although we now must go our separate ways for life, we will, in a sense stay Luiited forever in the very makeup of this school, for TRADITIONS OF GREATNESS BEGAN WITH US. . p 1 -M.- , gi.
