WESTPAC 1969 USS NAVASCTA departed San Pedro, California on 24 February 1969 for her fourth deployment to the Western Pacific since she was jum- boized in 1965. She proceeded to Sasebo, Japan, arriving on 16 March. After operating in the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea for a week, NAVASOTA turned south and sailed for Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. Upon completion of loading fuel, freight and mail, she de- parted Subic Bay on 5 April on the first of five line trips in support of United States Seventh Fleet units in waters contiguous to the Republic of South Vietnam and in the Gulf of Tonkin. Completing her last line trip on 25 June, NAVASOTA returned to Subic Bay, loaded out, and proceeded to the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong for six days of rest and relaxation. Departing Hong Kong on 23 July, she proceeded west and supported carrier operations off Okinawa, returning to Sasebo on 30 July. NAVASOTA operated out of that port for the re- mainder of the deployment. Departing Sasebo on 26 August, NAVA- SOTA returned to the continental United States, arriving at Long Beach, California on 13 September 1969. The deployment lasted 199 days, of which 150 were spent underway. NAVASOTA provided ser- vices for 280 ships during this period.
