The evenings and Sunday afternoons he gave up for us were greatly appreciated, for this annual could not have been completed without his presence. Our class advisers, Miss Nydegger and Mr. Calvo, supervised our first class meeting where our class officers were elected: President, Joan Winkhart, Vice-Presi- dent, Ronnie Surmay, Secretary, Kathy Bates, and Treasurer, Lois Edwards. The Student Council, our governing body, was represented by Lewis Page, Tom Hay, and Joan Winkhart. To represent us at the Homecoming Game, we chose lovely Martha MacNab. Our class projects of the first year were a subscription drive for magazines and the Freshman dance, featuring Gene Dillion as the radio personality. To begin our Sophomore year we elected as our class officers the following: President, Joan Winkhart, Vice-President, Gary Nofsinger, Secretary, Brenda Stin- son, and Treasurer, Tom Hay. Representatives to our Student Council were Joan Winkhart, Marlis Wanner, and Ronnie Newell. To help us with our problems, we had Miss Nydegger and Mr. Calvo as our advisers. To enlarge our class fund, paper drives and bake sales were organized. This was the year we chose our class jackets- gray with red lettering. After much deliberation in an assembly, Sandra Bechtel, Judy Whitmer, and Judy Riordan were chosen by popular demand to be our varsity cheerleaders. Our charming attendant to the Homecoming Queen was Brenda Stinson. Our class officers for the Junior year were: President, Joan Winkhart, Vice- President, Don Stein, Secretary, Rochelle Johnston, Treasurer, Lewis Page. To begin our Junior year, we had Miss Nydegger and Mr. Calvo again for our advisers, but Miss Nydegger became ill during the year and had to leave school. Student Council members that were elected were Joan Winkhart, Lewis Page, and Tom Hay. Our money-making projects included the Junior Gyp Joint, dances after football and basketball games, and paper drives to raise money for the Prom. The highlight of the year was the Prom held at the Alliance County Club. Our Junior Play, Peck's Bad Boy, was quite a success. Margie Gaut was homecoming attendant our Junior year. After much debate we chose our class rings and received them just in time for the Prom. For Girl's State, Marlis Wanner was chosen, and for Boy's State, Kenny Mahaffy and Tom Hay were chosen. As our last year rolled around there were sixty-five members in our class. Again Mr. Calvo was one of our advisers, the other one was Mr. Hammond. Chosen to head the senior class this year were: President, Helen Sewell, Vice-President, Tom Hay, Secretary, Lois Edwards, Treasurer, Jerry Snyder. Elected to the Student Council were Helen Sewell, Marlis Wanner, and Lewis Page. Margie Caut was the Home- coming Queen and Helen Sewell senior attendant. Our money-making projects included sponsoring dances, organizing bake sales, and selling pens and pennants. Time Out for Ginger, our Senior Play was the best play ever put on at Navarre High School. Our senior trip will take us to New York and Washington. Our class colors are navy blue and white, the class flower is a white carnation, the class motto is, "We have crossed the bay, the ocean lies ahead." Thus ends our history and begins our future. 27 Our QCO WJ GVG JE? Upper Tzzircl Sealed: Lois Edwards, Faith Doerflinger, Margret Ann llrenisvr, ,loan Winkhart. Arh-Ita llarr. Helen Sewell The Student Council of Navarre High School is a group of students chosen by each high school class. Class officers are elected immediately be- fore thc Student Council election. The President of each class is automatically a member of the Council. Every year from the Freshman and Junior classes there are two boys and one girl chosen. From the Sophomore and Senior classes there are two girls and one boy chosen. At the first Council meeting the officers are elected. Mr. Wisard starts us off with his 'gcream of the cropw speech and very ably assists us through our ac- tivities. Some of the Student Councilis main activities are the selection of monitors, the sponsoring of the Homecoming game and dance, the revenue from the apple and pencil machines, and buying some of the scholarship tests. The main interest of the Student Council is service to the school. I-le's ex- pressing it already-and he can go right on criticizing, discuss- ing, debating for the rest of his life here. Nobody's ever going to tell bint to shut up! lmagine the difference, had he been born in a Communist coun- try. IIe'd never be able to criti- cize :HI-1'fl7iIlg. He couldn't sound off about taxes, government, job. prices, criticize public officials. Why not? Well, if he did he'd be shot. We hope he becomes a good, honest, sincere critic. We hope he'll always stand right up and defend his rights. We hope he'll never be afraid to turn the spot- light on wrongs-so someone will take steps to right them. Be- cause that's the American way, and it's an American right guar- anteed by the Constitution. It's a freedom, and we're all born to it. One thing we know: the rest of us aren't going to let anyone come in and rob him of this right, until he grows up and can defend it for himself. Vile aren't going to trade our freedoms- any of them-for Iron Curtain conditions. Will you stand up and defend your freedom of speech? If you do, nobody can ever take it away from you. vlull-Mall: lla. u. 5 rn ou, The Timken Roller Bearing Company "The right In :cork .tlmll uol be abrirlyzvl um' mtlrle il1If70fl'l1In 97 C pliments of HAL'S SPORT SHOP 37 Erie Street North M II Oh M ssillon 8.
