Cciixptain G. R. Luker, USN, is the Commanding Officer of
the aval Air Technical Training Center.
Captain Luker reported aboard in Sept. 1954 from the
USS ONSLOW, where he served as skipper for 13 months.
He graduated from the U. S, Naval Academy in the class
of 1932, and served his first tour of duty aboard the USS
COLORADO from Iune 1932 until March 1936. He was then
transferred to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, for flight

After two abbreviated tours of dut aboard the USS
RANGER and the USS WRIGHT, Capt. Luker was assigned
to Pensacola again, this time as an instructor and Officer-
ilrgzgharge of Saufley Field. He held this billet until March,
His next assignment found him as Commanding Officer of
HEDRON-ll from March 1943 until May 1944. His last tour
of duty during World War 11 was as Commander of Air
Group S6 aboard the USS WASP.
Since World War II ended, Capt, Luker has served as
Public Relations Officer with the Secretary of the Nav 's
Office in Washington, as Executive Officer of the Naval Air
Station, Whidbey Island, Wash., as Operations Officer
aboard the USS KEARSARGEQ as Head of Department and
General Line Instructor at the U. S, Naval School for
general line officers in Monterey, Calif.: as Chief of Staff
G Aide to Commander, Fleet Air Japan, and as Commanding
Officer of the USS ONSLOW before reporting to Navy
Among his decorations, he wears the Silver Star, the
Distinguished Flying Cross and the Navy Unit Commenda-

Captain Ioseph C. Clifton, USN, one of the Navy's fightingest and most colorful aviators, became Commanding Officer of the Vast
Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee, on Iuly 8, 1954,
Known for his forceful and energetic manner and often respectfully referred to as "Iumping loo," Captain Clifton has a distinguished
World War ll combat record, l-le received numerous awards, including the Legion of Merit, three Distinguished Crosses, and the British
Distinguished Service Order for his outstanding service during the last war.
During the Korean action, Captain Clifton was Commanding Officer of Air Transport Squadron Eight of Berlin Airlift fame. Air
Transport Squadron Eight, under his command, along with other Military Air Transport Service components, poured critical materials
Clfld personnel into Korea in an unprecedented around-the-clock operation, which made aerial transport history.
A confidant of high ranking officers in the Pacific, including Admiral Arthur Radford, present Chairman of the Ioint Chiefs of Staff,
Cflpiain Clifton also served as a "trouble shooter" during the Korean action.
A native of Paducah, Kentucky, Captain Clifton entered the Naval Academy in l9Z6, and graduated with the class of l930. After
brief service with the fleet, he attended flight school at Pensacola, Florida, In addition to his combat service, he has distinguished peace
time service aboard numerous ships and stations.
Captain Clifton, one of the most sought after speakers in the mid-South area, reported to the Naval Air Station, Memphis, from the
Armed Forces War College, 8 Iuly l954.

Commander Roger D. Hutchins, a graduate of the University of Maine, entered the Navy as a
Naval Aviation Cadet in 1936, Following flight training at Pensacola, Fla., he received his commission
and designation as a Naval aviator in 1937. Prior to World War ll he served as a Patrol Plane
Commander with Patrol Squadrons 2 and 12. In 1940 he was released to inactive duty for only two
months. That same year he was recalled to active duty and ordered to NAS Scfuantum, Mass., as a
flight instructor. In 1941 and earlyNl942 he served at the Naval Air Station, Da las, Texas.
Shortly after the outbreak of orld War Il he was assigned to Patrol Squadron 53 in the South
Atlantic Area as a patrol plane commander and s uadron gunnery officer. He has since served with
