Surely no one who has followed ou1 team thls season When a team wlns ten games and tles the score 1n another out of a total of four teen games lt 1S consxdel ed a success by the cr1t1cs and that 1S what MISS Kenney s glrls dld thls last season Never SIHCG the spectacular season when the g1rls captalned by Mlss Olson won the state t1tle has a team 1n Naugy Hlgh done so well Some mlght ask how such a feat was ac compllshed th1s y ear and not ln years past Ask the Semors they know' What could the team have done agamst the seemmgly uncon querable Mllford and Brldgeport teams wlthout the falthful and by no means frultless efforts of thelr dauntless left guard and captam Mary Anderson Such powerful teams dld the manager Eleanor Smlth select as opposltlon for the team of 1926 that her own able asslstance was needed at left forward to brlng vlctory to our school And last but cer talnly not least of the SCHIOTS was the ever rellable forward Mary mores and Junlors on the team were good but wlthout thelr older and wiser asslstants where' oh where' would Old Naugy have been" The first game of the season was played on the home court Wlth Watertown Hlgh and was a sure w1n for Naugy glvlng the glrls a very encouraglng start The next game was a success 1n every way but ey en defeatlng the Alumnae at the Y gym by the blg score of 32 to 8 dld not turn the heads of our guls After these two v1ctor1es the team re celved thelr first defeat 1n a leturn game w1th Watertown that was termed a football game by our players Thxs hovs ever only renewed the vlgor on the part of Naugy s team and was followed by another wln when Naugy defeated Lltchfield Hlgh a team never before seen on a local court A league of upstate teams had been formed and the champlons of Lltchtield County determlned As Lltchfleld and Water town both had played here Thomaston wanted to txy 1ts luck but yy 1th l1ttle success for two games yy ere played and Naugy added more gems to her crown After thls vymmng streak agalnst the Lltchfield County teams Naugv suffered her second defeat from Budgeport Hlgh after a hard game w1th the State Champs of sex eral years Another game was lost to th1s team later 1n the season also Faxrfleld yy as next to be defeated and they also lost two games 1 Q, I ' o cy V . ., . ., '9 - 's , . . ., . t 7 7 y li - ' 77 ' Y I s n 9 . -1 L . MEMORABILIA Page Thirty-One Milford proved the hardest team, for the girls from the southern part of the state had won every game for two consecutive years.
