Eligibility is limited to those who are in the upper five and fifteen per cent of the Junior and Senior classes respect- ively. They must be outstanding in scholarship, character, leadership, and service. The Junior members this year seem to be geniuses because their lowest grade average is 1.33. The Seniors are smart too, with their lowest average being 1.79. This year six senior members competed for a scholarship offered by the national organization. And, of course, when the flowers began peeping forth, the annual spring picnic was held. ...-IQ91.i

GUSHER STAFF Summer, fall, winter, or spring you can find the Gusher staff buzzing with activity. This high school news service handles that terrific job of getting out the school newspaper, complete with collecting ads, writing copy, reading copy, correcting proof, and getting material to the printers on time. The very mention of the word deadline will prompt the reporter to perk up his ears and whip out his assignment note-book, to see if any- thing is amiss. The staff is made up of the Journalism class and other interested students in N.C.H.S. The only requirement for continued membership is hard work and dependability. The Gusher has a reputation to live up to. It has received the International Honor Award, the most honored achieve- ment given by the Quill and Scroll Critical Service of School Newspapers. Miss Ruth Pettigrew is the hard-working sponsor of the staff. Under her direction, the Gusher is published on an average of every two weeks, plus the big Christmas edition. Also, on April 1 the notorious Slusher comes forth. This is the journalist's dream-just to let go and write all the fantastic and hilarious news stored in his mind. The result is the rib- tickling April Fool's issue. ....I981.....
