Called PHIBLEX 2-82, the TRENTON and NEWPORT participated in this operation that covered seven days and involved all phases of am- phibious warfare. Early on the morning of February 16th, the Hrst wave of heloes and landing craft were launched from the ships and hit the beach. For the next several days the Marines ashore went through training maneuvers and tactics. Even though it was the ship's Hrst operation of the cruise, the entire evolution went very smoothly and set the tempo for the rest of the cruise.
