QS: lliii Despite its small staff the Public Affairs OfHce produces a great deal of informational tools. Monthy Family- grams were produced during this cruise and sent to over 1200 NASSAU families and friends. The journalist rating and Military Public Affairs were started in 1917 with the Navy News Bureau. The con- cept grew through WWL when civil- ian newsmen were enlisted as war cor- respondents. Today, Navy journalists handle regular news releases, shipboard newspapers, port visit materials, crui- seboolcs, and the programming for and operation of Closed-Circuit TV systems aboard ships. , .,, -,vig .
