These eight students, along with the rest of the iunior class worked hard to help make the first iunior class in Napa Senior High, as such, a group long remembered. They participated in the Winter Show, the Christmas hall decor- ations, and sent the most members to the various sports teams. With well over half of the student body composed of iuniors, this group had to be active, and they were. They proved that they were well on the way to adulthood. I8 Vice-President BOB BAC KUS President MARSHALL JAEGER SPRING OFFICERS Secretary-Treasurer J UDY BISHOP Following in the footsteps of predecessors, the spring officers took over at the beginning of the spring semester The iuniors had gained more fire and steam during th fall term and by now were very active. Their most important contribution was planning the Senior Prom in which they followed the appropriate theme, "Sayonara." ln most of the school functions, iuniors were the more active members. Their thoughts turned towards their senior year and work started along that channel with plans to make it a top year. The iuniors paved the path for other iunior classes to 'follow L. to R.: Maureen Seminara, Kay Tramner, Judy Pittsley, Jerry Connell I9 ,FQ Row 1' Tony Arnold Linda At d J , - . woo , oyce Asbury, Glenda Baillie, Terri Lee Albaugh, Muriel Austin, Andrea Adams, Lynn Aguilar, Sandra Adam. They have blazed a bright new trail gr! which others might easily follow with confidence in future years. Things got off on the right foot when in May of 1957, members of the class of 1958 formed a Napa Senior High Planning Committee. This committee, composed of both 'llth graders from the J.C. and 'l0th graders from Napa Junior High and Ridgeview, met at a big town hall meeting where students talked over certain topics with which they were concerned and a list of ideas and suggestions was drawn up for the faculty. This helped them very much in forming the kind of school that would be satisfactory to everyone. Senior Svveefheart' I As the school year progressed, the students found they 'needed transpor- Janice OfDonneH tation to out-of-town games. The seniors then formed a committee to meet with the P.T.A., discuss their problems, and come up with a solution. Although not in time for the football season, the buses took many rooters to league basketball and baseball.games. New things seemed to be the fad, for a group of Senior girls formed a new pep club and called themselves the Indianettes. They have been active ever since in rallies, games, and exchange assemblies and are expected to con- tinue as a tradition in the following years. Naturally the seniors pride themselves on their ability to beat the lower classmen in everything. And they had good reason, for at Christmas time their beautiful hall decorations won a S25 prize, and in January they showed the Juniors they could do it again by winning the Winter Show for the second consecutive year. And of course there were the usual graduation activities-the receiving of class rings, the ordering of caps and gowns, sending of invitations, presentation of the class gift, attending the Senior Prom, Baccalaureate and Graduation exercises, and the Graduation party and breakfast. Everything that goes with the celebration of the ending of their high school days. The National Thespian Society has been an active and sociable organization since its chartering in the summer of 1957 by Dayton Coffey. h Its function is to promote interest in dramatic arts among the student body and to further their knowledge of suc arts. The troupe members have made it their policy to foster good relationships among other campus organizations by offering their assistance in stage productions. Activities such as the Winter Show performances of the 'llth and 12th grade classes in which the Thespians handled the make-up, an important factor in successful stage productions, and the three one-act plays produced and directed entirely by the club members with a "backstage" theme dance highlighted with effective lighting, have shown the vivacity of the organization. Tentative plans include blackouts for assemblies and rallies, a Theatre party and finally a Children's play. The efforts of the new organization are led by the first annual officers: President, Don Self, Vice-President, Carol Hamon, Secretary, Diana Alladop Treasurer, Judy Sweeney, and Clerk, Vi Slinsen. The Napa Senior High student body may well look forward to the promising activities of the Thespians. 66 lgone Erfigwc 1 i f W 'ff' 'Ex .vw f li: 45 V2 ff f we x , h M ' 'f E. 4 Q? ,xg 1, 5 f f"..,g',' , Q: 2? "All. It would be very difficult to single out any one individual. When the chips were down, our reserves came through-when we were behind, our team's 'win attitude' proved too much for the opponent." Seniors Jess Pittore, Dick Lonergan, Gerald Caperton, Captain Russ Oliver, Clark Beckstrom. Juniors: Jay Vesterfelt, Captain, Marshall Jaeger, Denny Bush, Dan Charlesworth, Jerry Fisher were the members on the squad which Coach Covey thought could show great promise in the coming years. Winning seven, losing two, and tying for N.B.L. Championship are credited to this year's "lndians." The two losses were mainly caused by flu. This illness was the main influence on the games. "lt was a real pleasure to work with this year's tea m. They showed the will to win and the desire to work hard for what they wanted: the Championship! We'll miss the seniors next year as individuals and as a loss to our team. However, we look forward anxiously to a good year for the coming season and expect to fulfill our potential, with the many fine returning lettermen." -COACH BOB COVEY 76 Row 1: Mike Corsetti, Jess Pittore, Corky Beckstrom, Ed Burke, Ron Schoening, Jerry Fisher, Marshall Jaeger, Dick Lon- ergan, Tom Peters, Russ Oliver, Jim Gross, Bob Shipp. Row 2: Tony Smernes, Ted Pole, Beau Martin, , Gary Gilland, , Bob Dillon, Mike Bell, Ed Williams, Dan Charlesworth, Scotty Miller, Deni Woodward, Dale Teeters. P-60 78 79 BASKETBALL TIED FOR SECOND Led by determination, spirit, fire, the will to win, and high-point man, Bill Robertson, the Indians switched the tactics and predictions of the court, to come to near the top of the basketball ratings. Victories came to the Indians in all their league games except one Santa Rosa game and the Drake games. The Indians went into the last game of the season with Drake, tied for second place with Valleio. The game was the deciding point, who would hold the second place title? The scores were Napa 45, Tamalpais 38, Napa 47, San Rafael 40, Napa 5, Santa Rosa 48, Napa 50, Tamalpais 42, Napa 54, San Rafael 53, losses came with Santa Rosa, 55-47 and Drake, 59-45, and 63-47. ,flf thle boys have the desire and aspirations, we will haye a top team JOHN COL'-EDGE next year, says Coach Colledge. "For the first time in a long time we have a good batch of iuniors returning to the varsity team. This, plus the returning ramblers and the up-coming players from the iunior high, will make Napa one team that others will have to beat in order to win the title." Proof of this team coming up is that four of the five usually line-up were iuniors: Robertson at center, Marshall Jaeger and John Rawlins at forward and Doug Davis at guard. Senior, Jess Pittore usually started as the other guard. The second Drake game was the last game for seniors Jim Kennedy, Darrell Turner, Bob Beals, Jess Pittore, Gerry David on the varsity and Charles Auger, Larry Operman, and Jim Skinner on the Ramblers. Returning varsity players will include Doug Davis, Marshall Jaeger, Keith Kerri, John Rawlins, Robertson, moving up from the Ramblers will be Ron Busselen, Richard Chew, Steve Hischier, Jimmie Jeffords, Karl Kinney, Phil Lamoreaux, Bill loeffler, Scottie Miller, Mike Riley and Waldon Rorie. The Indians, slated to be the bottom of the ratings this year, iumped near the top, and coach and team to- gether will make the Indians a top team next year. At the Drake Tournament, Robertson received the Outstanding Player award, and both he and Pittore were se- lected for the All Tournament team.
