Samba Wdllfdfiq As time rolls on its ceaseless course, new seasons come and go. Tonight we are on the eve of graduation. With this event before us, our thoughts turn back to the early fall of 1942 when we stepped in to the first grade to begin our school career under the guiding hand of Mrs. Har- vey Dickerson. There was such a large class Mrs. Dickerson couldn't handle all of us so Miss Dora Collier, now Mrs, Flemming, gained part of us as her flock. From then on we were sepa- rated all through our grammar-school life. They turned us over in the second year to Miss Camp- bell and Mrs. Delmon Rowe, Mrs. Julian Peacock, Mrs. Clifton Lewis, Mrs. Russel Gurley, Miss Mary Pipkin, and Mrs. Talton Jones steered our course for the next five years. Mrs. John Thomp- son carried us successfully through our eighth grade and so graciously prepared us for high school. In the fall of 1950 we entered high school with a great future ahead of us. No one knows how green we felt but certainly how green we looked. We were confused by the changing classes, clanging bells, and endless jeers from the Sophomores. With the help of our home-room teacher, Mr. A. C. Holloman, we finally settled down to work. After a short summer of fun and hard work, we came back as 'Sophomores' to more hard work. Mr. W. P. Hollowell became our new principal taking the place of Mr. W. H. Bryson. Mrs. Ira Montague was our teacher and Mr. H. C. Banks took her place near Easter when she stopped teaching. Starting our Junior year, we had many wonderful events to look forward to. We gave our Junior play, "A Pair of County Kids," on December 5, 1953. After much planning and with the help of Mrs. William Crawford, our sponsor, we gave the Seniors a banquet on April 3, 1953, in the high school gym. Everyone really had a wonderful time. We well remember Career Day which was for all Juniors in the county. The marshals were: Barbara Ann Davis, chief, Shelba Jean Bunn, Helen Kate Stuckey, Rosella Jones, and Louvene Hall. We began our Senior year as full-pledged Seniors being delighted that Miss Louisianna Hurdle was our sponsor. There was much excitement when we received our rings after the first grading period. On November 12, 1953, a cast of happy and nervous actors presented the Senior play, "Brother Goose." We are very grateful to Mrs. Molton Gurley for directing our play. A happy bus of Seniors left for Washington, D. C. , on November 22. We all had a wonderful time and we hope our chaperones, Miss Hurdle and Mr. and Mrs. William Crawford, had a nice time along with our fun. We all have enjoyed working on our annual even though it was a lot of hard work. Words can't express how much we appreciate the help Miss Hurdle gave to make our an- nual a success. There have been discouraging times during our twelve years, but we wouldn't trade them for anything. We will miss everyone, but we will never forget our friends and the wonderful times while here at Nahunta High School. We want to say thank you to all our teachers, our principal, friends, and last, but not least, our parents.
