' 1' Mr. Raymond Christopher, Dr. Angelo Romeo, Mr. Carl Shuster, Mr. Frank Knight, president, Mr. Leroy Garnsey, Mr. Donald Kuney, Mr. Orville Yates, Mr. Lawrence Parker. F at BY' -. Your theme, "Leaves,I' will have many connotations as you Weave it into the pages of your yearbook. May I, therefore, remind you that a leaf can he a part of a hook of biography, a record of your life both as a class and as an individual. Each day you write a new page, and this year you are writing the concluding chap- ters of approximately the first quarter of your life. Wliat you Write today will affect what you write tomorrow. Write well! Your record is of your own making and is very important to your future success. I hope lVIynderse has helped you build a strong foundation for your future and I wish you well. Sincerely, Arthur L. Baker Superintendent of Schools arthur I. bUkef, Syracuse University, A.B., B.M.S. k?f5i?2iHY:M12T raymond rn. radfke, Buffalo State Teachers' College, Cornell University, BS., lVl.S. What can the theme "Leaves,' mean to you as members of the 1961 graduating class? At first glance any connection between leaves and your class seems remote. However, with thought, the wisdom of choosing this theme becomes apparent. It can have many meanings for you. We in central New York State are fortunate because we can enjoy the beauty of the fall foliage and thrill to the budding of new leaves in Spring. The transition from high school to a new phase of your life is like the changing of seasons. The end of your high school days may be compared to autumn-your senior year has at times been brightly colored as fall leavesg these pleasant experiences are falling away and there is some feeling of sadness as change takes place. But the new experiences you are about to meet are as the budding new leaves in spring-a new, fresh start but still part of the original tree-your home, church, and school. We sincerely hope that we have helped you to develop roots, strength, character, and ideals so that you will continue to grow in success and happiness. Sincerely, Raymond M. Radtke Principal 9 The topic "Leaves" may sound like a very commonplace subject, but consider its possibilities. To a gourmet, it may recall a table upon which food is placed. To a Wood- worker, it may mean the thin sheets making up a thickness of laminated wood. Everyone will probably call to mind the glorious landscapes of nature, painted in the crimson, gold, and brown of our fall foliage. However, leaves are also the pages of a book. In the Bible, the greatest book of all times, may be found the principles upon which to build an upright life. . ln other books, We may find and make use of the teachings of our greatest scient- ists and philosophers. Their knowledge becomes ours for the effort if we wish to make it. What effort will you make? You too can leave your mark on these leaves which may become timeless. What will it be? The cheerleaders have served as peppy and perky go-betweens for the team and crowd all year long. Early this year, they sold blue and white shakers, which not only raised money for new J.V. uni- forms, but also helped to make the traditional Waterloo football game 'lcome alivef, By stimu- lating school spirit with signs and "unusual" pep assemblies, the cheerleaders have attempted to firmly establish good sportsmanship in Mynderse. champions fraser paul capacci tom cummings SCORES Mynderse Opponents 7 New Hartford ..... . ........... 0 33 Clyde ............. ... ....... 7 57 De Sales .....,, ....... 0 48 Mt. The year's most ex- citing game was with our rival, Waterloo, which we won by one T point. An interesting point to note, was the fact that this year's team ended up with the same number of players it started with, which is a tribute to the Mynderse gridders. Their Qne loss was a heart-breaker to Geneva by a score of 6-0. The team rounded out a successful year by thor- oughly trouncing our traditional rival, Waterloo, 35-0. We can look forward to some new talent next year for the Varsity, as this year's J.V.7s were loaded with ability, this, coupled with some learning, should pro- vide the same "Gov next year as was prominent this season. coach bullis coach morrison l glenn kemak rick hooper varsity basketball We, here at Mynderse, had a real thrill this year, when the Blue Devil Dribblers were fighting their way to the top. The 1960 Mynderse batmen got off to a comparatively slow start with a 3-10 conference record. Although the record shows some room for improvement, the team com- pensated for it by gaining much valuable playing exper- ience on the diamond. With only two Seniors returning in 1961, it looks as if this year's team will capitalize on the experience they have gained. .. si ,V .. U 1 .r 'u .M ,. .- 1- ' -. ' N -". 5'-I-, Q ' 1' 1. , I .. These new records are 4:4182 in the mile by Enn Kotkas, and 10 ft. in the pole vault by Hog Kirkhart. Mynderse is really starting to move in this speedy sport, with a favorable turnout of 35 enthusiastic individuals. The Blue Devils took a total of 20 medals and ribbons in various relay and invitational meets. Mynderse had four Finger Lakes champions in Enn Kotkas, Heiti Kotkas, Rocky DiSant0, and the 4140 relay team. The first winning record in several years shows that the boys threw their hearts and legs into the meets and did a tremendous job throughout the season. II5 golf and tennis B. Buchwald H. Miller D. Cousins B. Fox B. Parker B. Brewer G. Kemak B. Campbell The 1960 golf team placed a close second in the league with 7 wins and 3 losses. Teeing off under the leadership of Mr. Pierce, the team looked for greener pastures with the nucleus of the team returning. Mynderse was without the services of Bob Campbell who fired a record low of 34- last year. .l. Clay, K. McDermott, P. Stewart, D. Gee, J. Ashley, D. Withers. l I6 Quickness of mind and eye, tech- nique, and stamina, these are the key words of our Mynderse netmen. Under the guidance of Coach Alley for five years now, each team has made notable improvement. This year, because of the retirement of five seniors from the M. A. courts, the ball was lobbed by relatively in- experienced rackets. In spite of this handicap, the '61 netmen did an outstanding job in imparting a "lVlynderse sliceu to each one of its eight opponents. bowling H. Simolo, D. Cousins, M. Spagnola, B. Sage, Coach Winthrop, T. Murphy, B. Good, B. Fox. This year's keglers, having a rookie squad and one veteran returning. finished with a respectable record. According to Mr. Winthrop, next year's team should be an improvement because only three seniors will graduate. There are also many promis- ing rookies coming up to help the four remaining veterans. The high games for the bowling team this year were: high singles-Doug Cousins 215, Bill Good 2079 high triples--Doug Cousins 592, Bill Good 52-lg high team single 8615 high team series 2503.
