CLASS OF 1942 OFFICERS Robert Lawson......................................President June Holland..................................Vice-President Marion Spencer.....................................Secretary Harold Lind........................................Treasurer Mynderse Academy fairly shook on its foundations when the Class of '42 arrived with a mighty bound. These ninety-two industrious, fun loving students plunged directly into their year’s work of electing officers. As freshmen, we were one hundred and thirty strong. Of this number, ninety-two are now full-fledged juniors. Of the thirty-eight unaccounted for, eleven have moved away, twenty have simply left school, and six have dropped behind. The untimely death this winter of Clementine Santinello, a popular girl of our class, was indeed a blow to the class. Although Dine was quiet, she was a hard worker and a staunch friend; and we miss her. As everyone seemed to have recovered from the strain of returning to their books by November, we sprang the Junior Party on them. The theme was “School Days,” with Hob Lawson acting as the “school master” of the skit which was presented. Representatives were chosen from each class to play the leading roles. School seems to play an important part in the lives and thoughts of the Class of '1-2; for the Junior Play, Remember the Day,” was a story of a young school boy, his teachers, and his comrades. The leading roles were ably protrayed by Louis Esposito, Marion Spencer, Bill Gargan, and June Holland. Mynderse may count itself fortunate in the number of juniors participating in the various activities and sports. Two of our outstanding varsity men are Gene Platten and Bob Lawson. The Class of ’42 is well represented in practically every activity in school. Many of us hold important offices in these activities. The two most cherished privileges of the junior class we have yet to fulfill this year. Two of our boys, as Junior Rotarians, will be allowed the privileges of Rotary Club members next year and will attend their meetings for a half year each. We also must choose three boys to attend Boys’ State for a week this summer. The fortunate boys may be proud that they possesss the admirable characteristics that enable them to be chosen for these two honorary activities. We must not forget to mention our fete to our predecessors, the seniors, in the form of the Junior-Senior party in the spring. This informal party is an annual gesture to show our affection for and appreciation of the seniors. And, last but not least, we shall conclude this happy and fruitful year with the Junior Prom. Plans are under way to make this one of the most gala, memorable formal dances ever held at Mynderse. We are sure that our Prom Queen will be a true representative of Mynderse beauty and talent. We especially wish to pay tribute to Mrs. Jenkins, Miss Palumbo, and Mr. Becker, our class advisers this year. They have put much time and effort into making our junior year in high school a happy memory. 24 Katherine Gargan, ’42
