SENICR BALL December twenty-eighth was the date chosen for the ball, that meant that an ac- tive senior committee didn't have much vacation for days preceding it while they were busy giving the gym a party taceg but the results more than repaid them for their sacrifices and the hazards ot the trips to the swamps tor the greens. Trees, trees and more trees were used to give a Christmasy look, and when the electrical work was completed, twinkly lightsered, green, blue, and orange gave just the desired effect. Holly and evergreen garlands testooned across the lower end ot the gym formed an attractive background for Charlie Cuthbert's Band, which furnished the music for the party. The night of the ball Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Mott, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vogel and Miss Iulia O'Brien received the seniors, and gave their usual gracious welcome to more than a hundred guests, many ot whom were college students at home tor the holidays. Miss O'Brien directed the committee which made the Senior Ball another suc- cess ior Nineteen Thirty-four. Those who assisted Paul Bracht, chairman, were Valerie Clark, Genevieve Dombrowski, Margaret Doran, lone Giannotti, Helen McCarthy, Olide Turri, George Sullivan, Philip Glmstead, Warren Mills, Frederick Clark, Robert Brower, George Semmens, loseph Sinicropi, Donald Knox, Raymond Gochenaur, Dominick Romeo, Briney Dombrowski, Robert Russel, Stuart Miller. In addition to the above, an unofficial floor committee worked atter the ball was over under the supervision ot Coach Baker to make the gym sate tor the Alumni- Varsity game, while the floor still retained evidence ot its polished days oi social splendor. To this secondary committee, the seniors express belated apprecia- tion. May we say, with apologies to Kipling, You're better men than we are, Gunga Dins ? 25

The motto which is followed in the club is We shall study not for school, but for health, home and happiness. This motto is carried out by the special study of all subjects touching on home life. This year the club decided to make a study of home crafts such as knitting and Crocheting. The club has had various activities during the year, the first of which was the initiation of its new members. This meeting was in the form of a Hallowe'en party, which was held in the home economics room for the occasion. Ruby Spears and Viola Schuster, chairmen of the committees, decorations and re- freshments, were responsible for the success of this party. During the month of December the club held a silver tea at which Miss Bessie Wickes was the guest of honor. Each Hearth member invited two guests to at- tend the tea. Mary Flynn was in charge of the refreshments, with Winifred Compson and Margaret Wilson on her committee. The room was decorated by Helen Lay and lanet Larzelere, while Nady Ricci was chairmen of the program committee. On February l5 a delightful Valentine's party was held. Some very clever ideas of entertainment, contributed by the members, made the evening enjoyable. Mary Flynn and Stella Antoniak were in charge of the food committee, and Wini- fred Compson and Nady Ricci of the entertainment. The membership of the club totals twenty-one. The present officers are Ann Wiley, presidentg Virginia Strong, vice-presidentg lanet Larzelere, secretary, and Elizabeth Warner, treasurer. The regular meetings of the Hearth Club are held in Miss Cardwell's room the first Wednesday of every month at four o'clock. 24

DEBATE CLUB Thirty-five answered to roll call lanuary 25, 1934, in Room 61 in response to Miss George's idea of a debate club in Mynderse, and from this number twenty- one were chosen for the club. The aim of the members, of course, is to under- stand the fundamentals of debating and become good debaters. ln order to be a member one must have a fairly good average in English and attend instructions regularly. So far, members have had practice in informal debating. The first real debate of the club was on March twenty-second, and on every Thursday morning thereafter during the activity period until the middle of April formal debates were given. MYNDERSE ACADEMY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB The Mynderse Academy Amateur Radio Club, consisting of sixteen members, was organized in March, 1934. The aim of this group is to study and investigate the theory and practice of radio construction, transmission and reception. Any student of Mynderse Academy who has taken or is taking a second year of science, or one who has had practical experience in any field of radio is eligible for application to membership. At the first meeting which was held March 8, 1934, a constitution was drawn up and officers were elected, including Mr. Harold F. Miller, faculty adviser, Edwin Burroughs, chief engineer, loseph Stenglein, assistant engineer, and Dominick Ortino, secretary-treasurer. THE FACULTY CLUB The faculty club officers for this year are Miss Hazel Riley, president, Mrs. lessie Matthews, vice-president, Miss Martha Mertz, secretary, and Miss Louise Grover, treasurer. This year's activities were begun by a reception and dinner given at the Gould Hotel, to acquaint the new teachers with their fellow colleagues. This was fol- lowed soon after by a public card party, the proceeds of which went to the Teachers' Welfare Fund. This fund is for teachers who for some reason do not receive the benefit of the Pension Law. One of the most outstanding achieve- ments has been the organization of the Faculty Book Club. Each teacher con- tributed a book, to be rented to the others at a small fee. The proceeds from these rental fees are to be used to buy more books to form a permanent library. Each month, at the meetings, some topic of interest concerning problems of the school and education has been discussed. The last gesture of the club this year is to be a dinner in lune. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION What more outstanding acknowledgment of the really deep meaning of our Alma Mater could be sought than the large gathering of Mynderse Alumni at the Hotel Gould on December 28 for the dinner-dance of the association in honor of the one hundredth birthday of our school? Mr. Francis Souhan, president, welcomed the guests and acknowledged the gift of 1923 toward a scholarship fund. Miss Carol Lester, toastmistress, intro- duced Mr. Francis l. Clary of Rochester, the principal speaker of the evening, who recalled Myndersians, past and present, who have become prominent since graduation from Mynderse. 26
