Lifeis highway grew broader As we approached our seniorhood, And new horizons beckoned us As we never dreamed they would. Not long ago we juniors Had just tvvo years ahead. We had no guiding traditions, So we founded some instead. Good times we now are leaving In classrooms, gym, and hallsg Yet our voices remain impended, Locked within Myers Parks walls. A score of large decisions Meet us at this journeys end, And we are grateful for the knowledge Which we gained and now may spend Qur high school days have ended: Those joyous days have past, But deep within our hearts They will forever last .,.. ANNE NICHOLSON, Class Lawyer Witizessesz BETSY Bosr MIMI SEAWELL KIRBY CARTER CLHSS PROPHECY "The old order changeth, yielding place to the newf' . . . As the second graduating class of Myers Park High School passes through its ultra modern doors and into the dimly lit corridor of the future, it is interesting to open the doors of time and see what the unfolding years hold for the varied personalities of the class of 1953. We now hold the key to the future: come with me as we unlock the door to: 195-l-Dr. Don Douglas, having completed four years of college and two years of graduate work at Harvard University during the 1953-54 session, is teaching kindergarten students how to increase their vocabulary. 1955-Gypsy Rose Reece and Norby fthe pro- fileD Barrymore, HI, are now touring the Belgium Conga with their show for toothless cannibals, "North Atlantic." 1956-Hope jarrell, who took an overdose of lohn Hasty's "Slow Grow Pills, for people under two and one half feet who feel inferior," has reached the height of eight feet, ten inches during the last month. 1957-"Calamity Corey and his Blue Beetlei' was the main feature at the international hot-rod races this year. Marie Partridge and her distinguished husband, who is president of the Citadel, were prominent figures in many newsreels. 1958-The most exclusive car on the market, "Beid's Robot," came out in January. Designer Pieid Huntley said that the streamlined model, completely devoid of a motor, is a replica of his winning soap box derby racer. 1959-jane Wrinkle, famous model for the "Which girl has the phoneyi' fred hairD ads, ap- pears in the latest issue of "Slime,,' a combination of Ulsifen and "Time.', Prime minister to the Sahara Desert, Phyllis McAnulty, and president of the United States, David Michaux, have recently introduced in the United Planets Assembly a plan to completely re- organize the organizations that have organized the reorganizing organizations. The purpose of this plan is, of course, to get rid of ham and cheese sandwiches in the Myers Park cafeteria. 1960-Larry Hays, manager of the famous French night club "Nes Cafen is featuring nightly Dot La Herring singing "Ze Peesh Gotta Zwimf' 1961-Betsy Farmer and Patsy Garrett sped across the seven seas in Betsy's emerald green con- vertible to Siam to see their former teacher Louie "Paton Pate. Sue Cochran's popular novel "Tap Happy" was a record seller this year. Caroline Anderson, who is combining her tennis career with social work, states that the world would be in a better condition if everyone would follow her example of "love-lovef, 1962-Mimi Singwell made her debut at the Met, in April, when she sang the beautiful opera, "La Trivial." This was the great staris first and last performance due to the fact that her husband, Don Haney, chief usher at the Met, as of the last per- formance no longer holds his job. Carol Marshburn, the great architect who set the leaning tower of Pisa straight, and put specta- cles on the Sphinx, will return to Myers Park this year to be the guest speaker at graduation exer- cises. Her subject will be "How to Twist Pretzels for a Career." 1963-Bay Linker, editor, publisher, photogra- pher, reporter, and copy boy of "Bays Plays," "The paper for all red blooded boys who eat raw ham- burgers," boasts that his is the only paper to cir- culate around the world plus having subscribers on Mars and Pluto. World famous fashion designers, Beverly Ward and Jewel Brunsen, flew to Paris via "Plighty Mcliennelis Airlinesf' to show their latest creation in the "Phew Look,'l the "Stinki" bathing suit. Martha Ann Potter, who is now carrying mail by dog sled on the Arctic Trail, stated that she could never make it without her "Sheep-dogfi Page One Hundred Fifteen 1964-The Honorable Dr. Dick Snick recently founded a rest home for neurotic basketball players who have water on the knee. Head nurse at Snick's Hill, Dottie CMagpieD Nightingale, states that many of the patients Cex-Mustang playersD can only be cured by shock treatments. These treatments are successfully administered when several nurses harmonize on "VV hen those Central Wildcats fall in line." Bob Chesney, editor of "Chesney's Cheesecake" was voted the artist most likely to have his work banned from the news-stands. 1965-Pat Mulvihillis hit play "I Remember Mama Kissing Santa Claus" didn't make Broad- way but in its revised form is playing in China Town as "Chop, Chop, Big Flopnl "jump and jerk to the music of Joe Wallwork and his clarinet" is listed as one of the most un- usual programs on television. Mary Masterman is the magnet of the "Moon- shine Companyf' which produces the only hair product known that keeps the head lir up night and day. 1966-Anne Nicholson, the author who revised the Bubaiyat, has perfected the play of a compara- tively unknown writer, VVilliam Shakespeare, and dubbed it "Macmauldin.H After touring the world several times, she has settled permanently in Mau Mau, an island off French Morocco. Anne and her business associate, "Queenie'i Bose, run a gambling casino and dance hall for all soldiers of foreign legion docking at the "Isle of Pair-of-Dice." "Queenie" has recently disclosed that this business is only a front for the secretive work which she is now completing on finger painting. Page One Hundred Sixteen 1967-Dick Kienle, who wrote "What Every 'Little' Cirl Should Know" made a trip around the world to give diplomas to all Myers Park students of the class of ,53 who were late paying their extra 35.75. "Elegant Everetti' Wohlbruck, the famous wres- tler vvho succeeded "Gorgeous Ceorgef, has won every match that he has lit thus far. 1968-Hank "The Hunkl' Chambless was the box office idol of millions this year. Because of in- juries received during his high school football career back in 1953, he was a perfect for the star- ring role of "Farewell to Armsf' 1969-Tommy Robertson, who recently opened the "Duckbill Platypusf' comparative to the "Stork,' of the olden days, filed his eighty-second divorce suit on March 13. Charging his recent wife with cruelty, incompatibility, and desertion Cdue to the fact that she was unable to engineer his electric trainl, "Bisque,' Bobertson is now in search of the eighty-third spouse. 1970-John Shelton, professor of paradoxical preoccupation, is now doing graduate work at Myers Park High School. Many doors are better left closed and had I known that some of the supposedly innocent stu- dents of the class of '53 were to lead such notori- ous lives, I would not have turned the key that opened the lock to the future. Letis lock the doors now to the private lives of many of our old friends. Frankly, l'd rather that you didn't tell them of what you have witnessed in this revealing trip into the future.
