Mrs. Jane Wllson The year 1976 is an important one to our country and to Muskegon High School. The students of M.H.S. continue to demonstrate their con- tinued excellence in all facets of the school's activities. We wish to congratulate the graduating Seniors and to pledge our continued efforts on behalf ofthe Sophomores and Juniors. James G. Agee We are proud to be participants in our country and communities Bicentennial celebration. We now look forward with anticipation to the accom- plishments of the students and faculty, as we begin our third century. Jane C. Wilson In this Bicentennial year much attention is focused on the past accomplishments of the school, and this is good. Out of the past has come Pride and Tradition, which has been the foundation and heritage upon which M.H.S. is built. To bask in the glories of the past is natural. M.H.S. must and will make its dreams into realities and seek improvements in ourselves and our facilities. To improve is goodg merely to innovate and dis- card has little purpose. Let us, the students and faculty, be dedicated to improvement of our school and selves so that we may effect all of those with whom we come in contact in a positive manner. Ronald J. Coach Kathy Blair's netters started the season off slowly but gained momentum as it progressed. Muskegon's counterparts, Muskegon Catholic, West Michigan Christian, Mona Shores, Reeths Puffer and Grand Haven all had at least one year of previous experience. All members of the squad were underclassmen, and if this year's record is any indication the team should be in good shape for the '77 season. BASKETBALL Coach Warren Ormister's Little Reds had a hard time putting it together this season losing all but five tilts. Jeffrey McQuirter, who was brought up to the Varsity during the second half of the season, was the big gun in all departments. Jim Boerighter and Abraham Phifer contributed greatly to the Little Red cause. Valuable experience was gained by many sophomores and they should be strong additions to next year's Varsity. 4 ,ny My I.Jefl' McQuiter brings the bull down court 2. Highlighted by the shinning defeat of the Benton Harbor Tigers and the Grand Haven Bucaneers at the Central Campus Auditorium the Reds kept the LMAC race for the top spot in a state of bedlam. Floor general, Jerry Elliot, assisted by Junior .lim Ray- mond, supplied the backcourt attack. Picking rebounds off the glass were Pannell, Robert Allen, and sophomore Jeff McQuirter. The same trio also held the highest tally of blocked shots. Returning lettermen Raymond, Tommy Williams, Allen, John Brown, and Jeff McQuirter will supply the backbone of next year's squad. Led by veteran skaters Ted Lee, Kevin Olds and John George the Club trounced many teams by a wide point margin. Lee and Earl Beam seemed to be very consistant in their scoring attacks through- out the season. Jeff Johnson, Ken Novak and Paul Vanderberg, did a commendablejob securing the Muskegon end of the ice. Bob Graham put the icing on the cake for the MHS defensive effort with a number of fantastic saves in each game. Next year's club will be without the services of Lee, Olds, and Novak, but veterans Graham, George, Beam, Vanderberg, and sophomore Joel Scott, among others will no doubtedly prevail for Coach Ron Kasher's pucksters next year. The Reds were steady in the early going winning five of their first seven meets, but became sluggish in the second half of the season losing to perrenial favorites Holland and Grand Haven. Several school records were broken by Coach Dave Heckaman's swimmers. Sophomore Brad Fredricks now holds the breaststroke record which was broken twice this season and diver John Langlois topped the MHS diving record. For the first time in the history of Big Red swimming, the squad surpassed the 100 point mark in scoring on two occasions with 103 and 105 points. The squad is expecting I6 returnees for the 1977 season, six Juniors, and ten Sophomores. Rahrig once again had high honors at the conference meet with a first place in both the 100-yard dash and the 200-yard dash. Rahrig was accompanied by Dan Daniels who turned in a commendable first place in the half mile run. Shot putter Aaron "Bo" Morris was the only first place medalalist in the Regional. Hopes for the '76 squad have been dimmed by the grad- uation of a number of seniors. The Big reds will have to rely on vetrans, Dave Kennedy, Doug Andrews, and Micky Fergerson. The girls team, in their year of competition, finished the season with a respectable 3-3 tally. Coach Carole Murphy stated, "It was our first year, but all of our opponents were experienced, having had a track team at least one year prior to the '75 season. Division of Textron Inc. Sealed Power Corporation When you make the highest quality piston rings in the world . . . what do you do for an encore? Well, in Sealed Power's case, you make more and more of them. Millions upon millions . . . large, medium and small. More, in fact, than any other piston ring manufacturer . . . anywhere. And you make each ring a testimonial to Sealed Power's long-standing policy of NO COMPROMISE WITH SUPERIOR QUALITY. But that's only a part of the Sealed Power story. We also make or distribute just about every engine part imaginable, from tappets, valves and pistons to camshafts, bearings and sleeves. And we serve a whole range of non-automotive in- dustries with a variety of parts that are die cast, investment cast or made of powdered metal. Sealed Power was founded in Muskegon and this is still our home, even though our corporate family now includes 16 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and several other countries. We extend our congratulations to you, with the hope that you prosper and grow with this dynamic community. TED'S MEN WEAR TUXBURY AGENCY INC. WA YNE'S DELIKATESSEN RELIABLE SUPPLE CORP.
