SFN IOR H19 TORY ln the vear nrrreteerr hundred and srxteen a band of about one hundred and rnrre l reshmen strolled rrrto the old M H 5 And Oh' how proud we were when told that we w ere the larGest class of Fresh men ever enrolled rn the hrstory of that elass Wherr we entered M H 5 we knew not for how lon' we had come to stay We tho t we w ere eornrnr to try rlrt schoor but really we were Comrnv to try ourselves to 1 rve to ourse ves lhe test of trme t rchr r ret that re We were hrst ushered to the assembly room whrch has now been chanffed rn marry ways How larfe and how Great drd that room and those upper classmen appear to us then XVe soon found that these upper classnren were also very pleased to see us because my' but they drd applaud we thought so when we were forted to Go baelt and forth to the Y Nl C A between perrods DlllIl1U thrs year we had xery lrttle room but under the lcrnd and sympathetrc supervrsron of our prmcrpal Dr Frantl thrngs went alonG very smoothly The frrst year of the struGgle passed wrthout many brg advances However as Sophomores we entered the doors of our new burldrng wrth a stronGer courage and a Greater amount of lenowledGe We w ere really brave enough to speale up pertly and say I forGot my Creneral Scrence Note Book I haven t my Algebra today It w as dur rnG thrs year that we plunged rnto athletrc actrvrtres wrth an earnest effort and made great progress We had one Great grref at the beGrnrrrnG of thrs year and that was the loss of Dr lqrarrtf Then came Prof Cr C Wrse to fill hrs place We Jomed varrous Lrterary Socretres C-lee Club and w ere clearly able to concerve the good trmes that Go alone wrth the more serrous nart of H Q lrfe Durrng the frrst two years of the struggle the band had worked toGether but we had no ofhcral leaders so rn our unror year offrcers were elected ohn Sullrvan was chosen presrdent Elwabeth Rausch vrce presrdent Myron Hoffman treasurer and Erral lxern secretary Many class meetrngs w ere held durmg thrs year and many of the Senrors showed great oratorrcal abrlrty The motto was 1 roserr aso rrrrgs an prns and Class colors wrth cerrse and w rte earrymG and the 'Xmerrcan Beauty Rose as our class flower Durrng the mrddle of the year another surprrse came to us Prof Wrse seerng hrs duty lay rn lwrance decrded to leave us and Go where he could to do hrs share rn l'Jlll1Ulllf about Democracy Many partres w ere held durrnG thrs year but none meant so much to us as drd the unror Senror receptron Our lrves seemed to be wery crowded at thrs perrod so rn tent were we upon entertarnrnG the Senrors more royally than they had ever been entertarrred and now we entered upon our Senror year wrth Dr Husted our ormer Physrcs teacher as p rncrpal Ir rs to hrm that we owe much of the honor and prof ress w hreh we reaped durrnv thrs year I co operatron we also chanfed uperrntendents Nlr lvlclntyre leawmg earnest rnterest ReorGanr1atron was aGarn held and rt was decrded that we retarn the ofhcers elected the prewrous year A play entrtled fhe l ruth by Clyde lwrtch w as undertaken by us durrng thrs perrod and a corrrplete success resulted lhe play wa Grven at the Grand Opera House by a Group of Crrrnnell College players and the amount cleared was almost beyond comprehensron Ir was decrded at one of a number of meetrnvs to use thrs money rn paymff off the debts of the Senror Class One of the Greatest events durrnG thrs year was the Qenror Rush Ir was then that our boys showed therr worthrness w hen they w ere face to face wrth rotten eggs and brrck bats We were very Glad one day when told rn an Assembly that we w ere to have the advantaGe of Physrcal PlrarnrnG altho we would only recerve one year s worle A General Senror party was held and then the boys de crded to grve the grrls a lrttle treat all therr own but everyone w as glad when the party brolee up because the treat came last And then we entered unon our last few weeles of school lrfe rn old M H 5 and these were the most crowded of all We were loolerng forward to bernG entertarned by the unrors and the Alumnr receptrons But the last and Greatest moment of our lrxes came on Ju e l I It was then that the mrst w as rolled baclt from our eyes and we realrzed how great the world our world of today really rs We x . .
