I RETRGSPECT TI-IIS WAS A YEAR . . . a year of weejuns, rnadras, and oxford cloth, of knee- socks, formals, and treeingsg of over-due library books, football, and night classes at the lake, of Chad Stuart rain, and Budweiser, of welcomed spring, early curfew, and vacations, of breaks at the Hut, the Jerk, and seven- thirty classes. All this was important, and we savored every moment but 1965 was more than beer and vaca- tions: it was test tubes and conjugations, chalk dust and illegable notes, blue books and bunsen burners, term papers and red-penciled corrections, carbon paper and concerts, maps and field trips, equations and themes, lectures and footnotes, poetry and finals, theories, realities, Plato, Shakespeare, Toynbee, Einstein, and Faulkner. Since 1923, students have walked these ways. Those students before us knew, as we now know, and as those who follow us will learn, that MSC is more than a college -it is part of the foundation upon which we will build a life. As college students, our daily routines are sometimes off-set by long walks-dress-up dates-or friendly dis- cussions. During these moments we become better ac- quainted with other students and we often learn to un- derstand ourselves more fully .... At MSC we find ample opportunity for expressing ourselves by participation in such creative activities as painting, writing, and theater. . . . Through the maturation process we learn to adjust to and become part of accepted patterns of college living. . . . As our college days draw toward their close, we inevitably find ourselves becoming more concerned with our future-yet no matter what path we choose, the knowledge and experience we have obtained at Murray State will afford to us the initiative and foundation nec- essary to our further development and future life .... In retrospective view, we may say-all this was Murray State College in 1965. . 3
